it feels more like a good four-star place. The service is certainly good and memorable. The overall installations are comfortable and luxurious. Very nice and helpful staff offered me upgraded room .Good breakfast and we also had the dinner in the night which was very good. Perfect service. And had lots of fun in the night club with great music. 100+++++

Even if described as a "Resort" on the Sri Lanka Lonely Planet, this place is much more than many rooms and buffet breakfast for big tourist groups. In fact, its not one building but many bungalow (or kind of) scattered in an incredible garden which is in fact in front of a big lake (Giritale Tank). The rooms are impeccable (I stayed in the "Superior Room" with lake view, which was a blast), and it has two nice pools with waterfall included. The restaurant is excellent and breakfast or dinner in the park next to the pool an experience. The bad part is that its not directly in Polonnaruwa but in Giritale, about 12Km away, so it might be inconvenient if you don't have your own transportation there. Still, tuk-tuks are always around and not a major issue. All in all, excellent choice to chill a couple of days in real luxury, especially if you have a long trip around Sri Lanka on your shoulders. Enjoy!

Room Tip: The "Superior Rooms" with Giritale Tank view are excellent.

We visited this place for a 3 day stay and it was an absolutely lovely experience. The rooms were spacious and the addition of a corner couch was really nice to sit on comfortably. Bathrooms had natural light and were fairly spacious too. The shower area could have been a bit more cleaner regarding the cement 'stones' and rocks that surrounded it.

The gardens were relaxing and hammocks were there for you to enjoy the surroundings. Quiet area with birds chirping away. At the time we visited the hotel was doing some renovations and the pools were worked on as well as a nearby area of land. Noise however was minimal and cannot be called 'loud'.

The buffets had enough and more vegetarian choices and the food was just delicious. For lunch there was no buffet but you could order out of the menu. That experience could have been better with the choice that was provided but this was not a big deal. The staff were friendly and if you needed something it was just a matter of telling someone. They were really nice to us and looked after us very well. You could dine under the stars and at night the breeze is nice and cool.

Sleep quality was good overall but the walls were felt to be a little thin....maybe. We could hear the neighbor's TV and talking. Maybe they were really loud...there was no way of telling whether it was just 'loud' or the walls were too thin which is why it was heard loudly.

If you want a place to relax, this is really a good spot. Pricing is a little on the high side for locals but we felt the visit was certainly worth it and this hotel was quickly found to be on our 'favorites' list. We would definitely visit again and would highly recommend this place.

Stayed here for two nights as a couple in April.

The room was fine, if a little dark, and the outside shower was a good feature.

On the first evening the buffet dinner was served on the lawn, which was a wonderful setting.

Tried Sri Lankan porridge for breakfast and amused the waiters by asking if the sugar should go into the porridge.

Nice location on the lake, though the view is obscured by trees.

This place is a good hide out from the busy cities where you will nt get disturb by the loud vehicles or noisy people.

I went there with three of my friends to enjoy an annual trip. The place was surrounded by lot of trees and that realy gave us the feeling of hiding from the cities. We enjoyed late swims in the very cold pool, had our choice of beer (A tailor made taste which I discovered !) from the barmen and a relaxing long coffe in morning while a long chat.

Meals were good and the service was also good.

In the cabanas, the down stair was little dark (Better to use some bright lamps there) and some old furniture were placed.

But those were not anyway disturbing our trip and I would recomend this place to anyone who wanted to enjoy a real hide out tour with total comfert.

We booked late and we found this hotel only. It is really popular for groups (especially elderly people). The room was not really clean, it was dark and without any view. The service was really annoying and if you don't choose the buffet option for dinner, the staff doesn't care about you.

The biggest problem with this hotel is the distance from the most popular attractions of the region. It took us 1 hour everyday by car to reach Habarana (which is the best location) and then from there still 1 hour to Sigirya and 2 hours to Annaraphurna.

I don't reccomend this hotel.

Our seperate cottage was roomy and comfortable. The outdoor shower was really fun, although the water heater didn't handle two consecutive showers. The setting was like being in the tropics on the edge of a large lake ... very picturesque. The cottage had some maintenance issues that were responded to very quickly. Staff was competent and very friendly. The main reception area has a lovely lounge and patio where we could access wi-fi. Our only disappointment was the food. The advertized rooftop restaurant was closed. So the only dining option was buffets (we didn't try room service). The food was mediocre and the service was not very good in the dining room. All in all we would still recommend this place as long as the expectation is not too high about the food.
