We stayed in Devi Tourist Home for only one night but it was exactly what we needed. Big, clean, air-conditioned rooms and great food. The outdoor lounge/living area is a nice little place to relax in the shade and the owner is happy to help arrange tours from there to other cities/sightseeing spots. It was so easy that we just booked a driver for the day to take us to Dambulla, Sigiriya and drop us off in Kandy. We had dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse for reasonable prices (delicious!) and they had bicycles to rent for 300R/day to take you around the town and through the ruins. (Definitely a must - it's just too far and hot to walk!) but it was perfect with the bikes. Just a nice short ride. We ended up here because all of the other guesthouses were full and it's hidden on a little side street (where most of the other ones are on the main street so you can see them easily) but we're happy we ended up here. Tuk Tuk from the train station to here cost us 300R (but I'm sure you could bargain it down!)

We went there last week for 2 nights.
The rooms was the last one on the right with twin beds and A/C, not hot water (but useless considering the very warm weather) for 2500r.
The bed was nice, clean, a/c worked properly.
The food was very good, and the owner's wife even showed us how to cook chicken and potato curry, fried rice as well.
We shared dinner with the other guests so easy to meet new people.
Bicycle renting possible, cheap (300r per day) but check it before going to the temples, some of them are old!
Good location, 10minutes from the ruins, a bit far from the town but there is nothing to do there.
Nice family, good advices. The owner can arrange you tours but easy to say no if you dont want to.

We stayed here for just a night stopping in to see the ruins in April. The family who owns it is very friendly and accommodating. It does kind of feel like you’re spending the night at someone’s house, rather than a guesthouse, especially if there aren’t many guests there. The food is okay. The fan room on the far right was comfortable enough, though the bathroom was pretty small. The internet runs all day and is reliable. It is a little outside the city center, but not bad, about 10 minutes on a bicycle.

We stayed here for one night whilst backpacking through Sri Lanka! It was great for what we needed- a cheap, basic place to stay after a long trip to sigiriya rock and polonnaruwa. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming and the rooms were clean. There are quite a few Mosquitos in the area so don't forget your deet! In the rooms there are mosquito nets though. We had two single beds with a little simple bathroom. This room cost 1700 ruppees. As this is a little off the beaten track we had dinner there which was tasty and reasonably priced.

We stayed here for one night during a six day tour of Sri Lanka. We were warmly welcomed, the accommodation was basic, but clean and functional. The food was excellent and being a little further out of town made the setting calm and peaceful, would recommend.

The place is out of the center so it's very calm.
You can order dinner, which is a good thing if you don't want to go out after a long day and it's cheap.
Room is OK but there was so many mosquitoes, had not seen so many in my whole trip.
We used the A/C as you can't breathe without (windows stay closed due to mosquitoes).
Maybe not the greatest stay in the city.

We booked the best room here, room 4, there are five in total. The cost was 4000 rupees without breakfast. I noticed a smell of insect pesticide when we went to the room but didn't think about why it might be there. The room itself was bright modern and clean however things went downhill after this. During the first night went to use the bathroom to find c 12 flying cockroaches in the bathroom- extremely unpleasant. Spoke to the owner in the morning discreetly so as not to alarm the other guests. He apologised and said it happened every time after rain and that he had sprayed the area and that they must have come up through the drain. Found another In the bedroom during the day and more in the bathroom on the second night. Each time we complained to the owners. The owners wife said it was the first time it happened - different story from husband. We complained again when we asked for the bill they said they were ashamed but no reduction on the bill. Laundry expensive also. Avoid .

Room Tip: Avoid unless you like cockroaches and being ripped off with a smile
