“Nice hotel but poor service”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We stayed in the new part of the hotel and the room was bright, clean and tiled. The bathroom was really nice and we had a balcony overlooking the pool. It was lovely to be able to come back after a day of cycling to relax in the pool. However the service let the hotel down. We arrived early in the morning after a long bus journey and were not able to check in until twelve. This is understandable except that we were treated very differently from another another couple who arrived by car and were offered a welcome drink ( we were not!). We stayed two nights and our room was not cleaned or our beds even made. Breakfast is included in the price and is buffet style. There was a cockroach in the buffet and the staff were not very interested in getting rid of it.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the room. After a long day of travel we had a great sleep and were refreshed and ready for our next part of our adventure. Breakfast was great with good service. There was a pool but we didn't use it. It did look inviting.

We stayed here for a night during an Intrepid tour. We had a room in the old part of the hotel. It was pretty ordinary. It was a hotbox with windows having no mosquito mesh and there was no net over the bed. Outside there were mosquitoes everywhere, Aircon was available but we had to pay extra for it. Really, there was no option not to have it with the heat and the prospect of mozzies if the window was opened. Felt ripped-off here

With my family I traveled to Polonnaruwa for three days (two night) during this , stayed at Siyanco. Its a good place to stays, very close to ruins, museum and Parakkrama samudhra. Very quite place, nice rooms and a pool. The pool is good for kids. Even the friendly staff. But they need to have little more attention on to bathroom in the room I've stayed. The tiles they used on the bathroom floor is too shiny and not ideal for a bathroom. Except that others are acceptable for the similar class hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms next to pools may be good, but have to wait till they complete the construction there. :)

This hotel is a budget hotel. That's the main point. You can't "expect" things to be perfect. For example,in room 303, to turn the A/C on you have to switch it on with the wall switch and turn it off the same way because the remote's on/off switch doesn't work. The other room's(302) AC was too small to cool the room. The swimming pool was good although the facilities such as towels weren't available. Breakfast was good, but there weren't enough food variety.Oh, and there were some mosquitos in the dining room. Then there are the good points such as the great location! So near to every attraction you'd want to visit. The staff was small yet helpful. For every bad point you meet just say to your self " This is a budget hotel". One thing that I like about this hotel is the staff alway tried to provide! But anyway they provide the basic luxuries you need, though it does become trouble some at times.

Room Tip: Go to new the new wing!

Good mid range priced hotel - walking distance to ruins, nice swimming pool, large dining area. Have recently completed a new wing overlooking the pool. We stayed in the older wing but our room was still nice. Large dining area with friendly and attentive staff. Mosquitos were particularly vicious at this hotel which made evening dining particularly unpleasant - even inside - as staff seemed unaware that this was an issue for western travellers and made no effort to close the doors to the dining room around sunset. Food was of an average standard for a Sri Lankan hotel of this kind. The hotel has bikes for hire, can organise transport and generally seem to be trying very hard to anticipate the needs of western travellers. Would not hesistate to recommend to anybody on a mid price budget in this part of Sri Lanka

Room Tip: Better to get a room in the new wing overlooking the swiming pool. Bring mosquito repellant for even...

This hotel has doubled its prices in the last two years. How they can justify this is completely beyond me. Whilst the room was ok, it really was nothing special. Certainly not worth the price. Don't pay extra for the tv, as they only have Sri Lankan channels. Terrible service too. The hotel decided to carried out heavy maintenance work next to the dining area during breakfast, for example. They also insisted upon only serving chinese food. My guess is the management are just cashing in on unsuspecting tourists without caring about the quality of service. What a shame.
