The hotel is very good with an excellent dinner and breakfast buffet (ask for a discount if you're full vegetarian). The rooms are spacious and quiet, and rather well isolated. Some rooms near the reception can be noisy as there is a rather mediocre life music until 23.00 at the bar/lobby area, but in the rooms further down you don't hear anything. The grounds are green, with a view on the river and pleasant. The only issue is the distance from the centre of Kandy, so you need a car. At dark, the road to the hotel is not well indicated. The road coming directly from town goes up and down the hill and is unlit - difficult if your driver doesn't know the area so ask well for directions before leaving Kandy center. The other road arriving to the hotel goes along the river, but I was told by a local friend not to take it alone at night as there are no houses on the way, so think about it.
There is driver accomodation available, but the driver has to pay for his food (apparently; I did not check with the reception, that's what my driver told me).
The reception and restaurant staff was good and professional.
The pool looks very nice, but I did not see anybody swimming. It would be a bit awkward, I suppose, as it is just at the front of the lobby/bar area. :-)
The hotel caters to tour groups, which dominate the scene, but if you don't mind it, and you want a quiet night in a pleasant room, it is a good choice.
The internet is included and worked well.

Room Tip: Far from the reception or otherwise very bad life music until 23.00.

We enjoyed staying in this hotel. The grounds are beautiful , and the views over the river are also really nice.

First impressions count, and ours was not that good. The rooms, compared to the photo's, look old and tired. They are a little stuffy and the stairs up and down would not be suitable for elderly guests or people with young infants.

Some of the staff, like waiters, porters and bar staff are really friendly and have a great attitude. The same can not be said for the reception staff , who are not really helpful and dont have a really good customer attitude..

The hotel is quite conveniently located and worth considering if you visit Candy.

Room Tip: If you have kids, ask for a room which opens up onto the garden, My daughters loved running in the g...

We stayed at Cinnamon Citadel Kandy in December 2013 and we were not disappointed at all. Good property to stay at while at Kandy with it not being too far away from the main city. The rooms were good and all facilities were pretty modern. However, it must be said that the staff are the main strength of the hotel, with most of them going out of the way to take care of our every comfort. Special commendation for Mr. Sampath from the travel desk who took care of the travel plans smoothly, given that this was our first time there. I would recommend staying there at any time. The hotel also had a great Christmas party for the guests, complete with a visit from Santa, which drove the kids wild. Thanks so much for making our stay comfortable.

Warm regards,
Abhishek

Room Tip: Get a room facing the river for good views.

We decided to stay at this hotel based on other Tripadvisor recommendations and am glad to say we were not disappointed.
Firstly the hotel is in a fantastic spot, just outside of the hustle and bustle of Kandy (so nice and quiet) and next to a lovely river with views into the jungle beyond. The rooms are not spectacular but certainly very clean and comfortable with the usual TV, mini bar etc. The view from our room was also quite stunning; what a pleasure to sit outside on the terrace reading a book watching the birds, bats and other wildlife go by.
The restaurant choice is limited to the buffet and the a la carte menu in the cafe restaurant, but this was not a problem as the food was excellent. I am normally not a fan of the buffet but this one was really very good, loads of variety and many curries (which I love)! The food from the a la carte menu was also very good. The wine list is also not bad, much better than I had expected.
We found all the staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, perhaps best exemplified by the great gala dinner they held for New Year's Eve. We really enjoyed it, in fact so much better than the one we had last year at a hotel in Dubai. The staff really got involved and it was so much fun; even the beauty contest!
There's a very helpful travel desk which arranged a number of our trips. We probably enjoyed the river cruise and the elephant orphanage the best but there are lots of other things to do. Perhaps the best though was just sitting by the pool or at the lovely spacious bar, reading a book.
The only other comments I would make are 1. There is no hotel shop, which would be quite useful 2. no spa, which would be a real plus point for the hotel and 3. no gym, not a real necessity but a nice to have. We enjoyed the table tennis anyway.
I would very much recommend this hotel and hope to come here again. It certainly was a New Year to remember.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main block have a great view and are close to the bar but the band plays late into...

We had a one night stay at the Cinammon Citadel during our tour of Kandy. The hotel is located at a height with a lovely river flowing beside it. The room had a spectacular view of the river. And the dining room also overlooked the river which made the break fast experience truly memorable. We were very impressed with the decor of the rooms, very chic designer touch with bright colours and matching upholstery. The room was a bit cramped for 3 people but the spacious balcony made up for it. The service at the front desk was excellent both during check in and check out. Wi Fi is available in the room on request.
The hotel is located about 20 minutes drive from the centre of Kandy. But the beautiful location makes it really worthwhile.

1. Staff was matter-of-fact. seemed tired.
2. Food was average - expected more.
3. Rooms were stuffy.

The staff seems to be more interested in going on in their business. not helpful or pleasant.
The layout seems to make people at lower rooms walk a lot.

Was assigned corner rooms.. Nothing to take home as a wow moment!!

The hotel is very exclusive and has excellent customer service attitude. Its a very large hotel, my room no was 326 and it was very far away from the reception. The ambience around the hotel is scenic. River and mountains. Good lavish but fixed breakfast menu. Only live counter used to change. Rooms are large and very clean and tidy. In-house restaurant and swimming pool is amazing.

We were there for the christmas gala dinner. The spread was lavish, but, the food was served cold. This spoiled the fun.

Main issue is that, it is 7 kms away from city roads. Rest everything is worth an experience.

Cheers!
