The hotel has an expensive and stylish feel. We were given a room far below the reception level and were concerned, but it was spacious, with the back door opening onto a green garden, and the furniture had a faint and pleasant smelled of cinnamon - or did we imagine it? The buffet choice of food was one of the best we had ever seen anywhere, with all possible Sri Lankan meals and an open counter for Japanese food. The service was excellent, my son enjoyed free wi-fi in the room, and the river was shrouded in misty fog (when it does not rain in Sri Lanka it drizzles, we believe) adding to the hotel's grace.

A decent choice when staying in Kandy. The best part of the hotel is the view overlooking the Mahaweli River - its open terrace from the bar allows you to enjoy the view while having a nice meal. The hotel offers an a la carte restaurant as well as a breakfast and dinner buffet which in our book rated very well as the choices were both local and international cuisine it allowed for us to be somewhat adventurous in our food selection while having an international option. My fiance who is a very picky eater said this was the best out of all the hotels we stayed in during our trip. The hotel is about 15 minutes away from the hectic city but if you want to enjoy the city and have a nice quiet evening this is the way to go. Unfortunately, our last night was not the best as there was clearly something wrong with our plumbing as the pipes kept making a loud popping sound about every 2 hours in the middle of the night - perhaps a one off situation but the hotel could be a little better maintained to avoid these issues. Lastly, I thought the hotel was perhaps slightly over-rated on here as I wouldn't rate it any higher than 3 stars.

This hotel was fantastic. The rooms were the best I saw in touring Sri Lanka, the food excellent, the staff great, the lobby area (free wifi) looks amazing. It is hard to find fault with this hotel.

It is not located near the heart of Kandy though. We had a driver so it was not a problem at all, for people without though it might be frustrating (see other posts/reviews on this website).

The pool and garden overlook the river, very tranquil and attractive. The hotel is outside of Kandy so you would need transport to go there. Restaurant on 1st floor has a verdana so you can eat outside. Food selection is excellent. Rooms comfortable and spacious.

Very nice place. Luxury hotel style with pool and two restaurants. Good bar and nice buffet in the restaurant panorama. Ideal for a leisure stop. Only minus: A bit far out of the city, approximately25-35 min in traffic

We stayed at the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy for two nights and we certainly wished we could stay longer. The experience we had at the hotel were really amazing from the first second. Upon arrival we were asked to wait in the lobby and we were offered a cold towel and a welcome drink while we were waiting for the check-in to be finalize. The room was absolutely beautiful with a big bathroom and a great balcony. The hotel has to main restaurants. One is called Panorama (buffet style), where also breakfast is served in the morning and an a la carte restaurant called Cafe C. Both evenings we had dinner at Cafe C and we really enjoyed our food and the great service from the hotel staff. Also the setting of the hotel bar is very nice as it offers a great view at the river.
A special thank goes again to the house keeping for preparing an amazing surprise in our room by setting up swans and elephants made of towels and a huge heart covered with blossoms on our bed. When we come back to Sri Lanka we will certainly stay in this hotel again.
