“A pleasant stay at Kandy”
Reviewed March 8, 2012

Like most visitors we stayed here two nights during our "Ceylon Tour", but we would have liked to stay longer. We had a nice room overlooking the pool, river and jungle. There was an excellent choice of Sri Lankan and European food at both breakfast and dinner. The pool much cleaner than at Habarana) enabled us to have a refreshing swim. So we enjoyed it all.

Stayed 2 nights in a room with a view over the pool, river and jungle. Very comfortable and surprisingly mosquito-free. Ate well in the hotel one night but a bit of a scrum round the food. Pool area comfortable and well-maintained. A short slog into town - about 12-15 minutes by tuk-tuk.

Bar area seems to be a watering hole for the local successful businessmen, but this was excellent as elsewhere there were few local faces save for the staff.

I chose this hotel after reviewing TripAdvisor recommendations and I was not at all disappointed. In fact, this is one of the best hotels to stay in Kandy if you are travelling with family.

Location is excellent, located on the banks of Mahewali river, in the city outskirts. You can take a walk in the morning along the embankment, feel the crisp fresh air and absorb the greenery around. There is also a boat trip that the hotel offers but I found it a tad too expensive and did not opt for it. The hotel is just right enough to be away from the hustle and bustle but still be able to access the main city attractions without spending too much time on the road.

Rooms were great - big size, clean toilets and good views. We were initially given rooms in lower section of the hotel, which would mean climbing lots of stairs (they did not have a lift for the lower flowers, but did have it for the floors upwards from ground). Since we had old parents travelling, we requested to be shifted nearer to the ground floor. The hotel staff graciously complied with our request even though it was peak season and they were completely full.

Breakfast was very elaborate and sumptuous. Umpteen variety to choose from and food tasted awesome! Service was also really good. We ate dinner one day at their A La Carte' restaurant, which was okay. There were not too many patrons (wonder why?) and we had to go to reception to call up a waiter. Otherwise, food was fine.

Overall, this hotel has a majestic presence and an excellent 4 star property if you are putting up in Kandy!

A good hotel in a lovely setting but quite a treck from Kandy Centre. Ask for rooms in the newer wing as they look directly out onto the river. The hotel does need refurbishing in places, which I believe is happening this spring. Food excellent and a very good choice of dishes

Room Tip: A bit of a treck to the rooms, but the superior rooms with balcony are worth it.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel as part of our Sri Lanka tour.
We had hoped that the hotel would be close enough to walk into Kandy but that was certainly not the case. The hotel is a few miles off the main road into Kandy but in a wonderful setting perched on the side of a valley overlooking a river. The hotel would make a wonderful setting for a honeymoon.
The service provided by all the staff was superb and the buffet food was excellent. We stayed on a half board basis and like most of the visitors were just passing through on our tours. The hotel lounges are open to the outside amd at night bites can be a problem but the pool and views were worth it.
The room we had was very comfortable with a spacious double bed. The only thing that put us off was on the second night when we decided to have a nightcap on the balcony only to find there was a mobile phone transmitter attached to our balcony. This did put me off and if I had seen it earlier would have asked to change rooms. It did not however detract from the splendour of the hotel.

Room Tip: Look on the balcony before you accept a 2nd floor room.

Nice pool with a stunning view of the river, complete with jungle on the other side, Every night at sundown there's a great display of bats flying past overhead.

Ping-pong table is also good but service for drinks and food can be slow. There's also an infuriating payment system so getting a bill can seem to take an age.

Spent two nights in this lovely hotel ( room 308) was both massive & well equiped , right on the river, the pool was a real tonic after several days of touring, food was good both breakfast & dinner, waiting staff were very attentive, pricing was good.We also visited Temple of the Tooth ( on a saturday- boy the crush of the locals, but actually got to see the casket), Cultural dancing ( not our cup of tea , but when touring it's worth going all the same), the lake from above is a splendid sight, botanical gardens were grand & well maintained

Room Tip: Go for a supier room , but be aware the hotel is closing later this year for a major refurbishment...
