“Avoid this place”

We stayed there one night and chose to shorten our stay to move to another hotel.

The manager of the place is a very aggressive and changing woman whose only interest is to get money from you.
We wanted to get a car to get to visit the golden triangle, she offered something really expensive and when we got someone to share the car with us, she became mad and started shouting horrible things to us.

This guesthouse is on the main road with lots of other places, the walk along the lake into Kandy is quite nice, although noisy from traffic.
We stayed during the low session and had two rooms next to each other and a shared little living room which was perfect for relaxing. The rooms were clean and basic. The breakfast the standard fried egg, fruit and toast, nothing exciting.
When we asked the lady for advice with different things we always felt like we were being pushed into something that would get her commission.
BIGGEST PROBLEM!! - When I checked my credit card bill sometime later it was charged twice what was written on my bill!!!
If you choose to stay here, pay by cash, but there are fair better and more honest places in Kandy.

We stayed at Expeditor just one night. We booked via email just a few days before; our reservation was confirmed by email, although note that the price was never confirmed in writing (which may be the business model, looking at other reviews here) so that the owner can tweak it in various ways later, which is what happened to us.
The room was fine, clean enough, and we were welcomed by a friendly gentleman who told us what the cost would be when we asked. He stated 4850 rupees.
We asked to have dinner there and were presented with a laminated menu card, described as 'very old menu'. We had classic Sri Lankan rice and curry. It was good food, very spicy but it does tend to be unless you ask otherwise I think.
We asked the woman who is the owner if she could give us a price for a driver to our next destination the following day. She said she'd find out and confirm.
The next day, breakfast fine. Fruit and then fried eggs on toast, no problem. We were told what the quote for the driver would be which seemed very expensive to us, and they didn't actually know where the place was that we wanted to go.
We checked out but were able to leave our bags there for the morning while we went into Kandy. On checkout the room price had been elevated to 5000 rupees. We decided not to bother challenging her about it, we just settled up for the dinner and everything, and went to Kandy. There we went to a taxi office and arranged a driver for a much better price (2000 rupees cheaper than she had quoted). We then went back to Expeditor to ask her to cancel the driver she had been arranging (which had all seemed quite provisional anyway). She seemed cross about this, but then tried to tell us she'd made a mistake on our bill and that there was more to pay for the dinner in addition to what we'd already paid. When we tried to understand the random price hikes, a succession of bizarre explanations came including that the menu prices were old (don't give us an old menu then!) and that the room was more than stated because her staff didn't know the prices (!) an then later, because 'water had to be heated for the room'....
Our interpretation is that she had missed out on a cut of the driver fare because we'd cancelled it having found a way better price, and was trying anything she could think of to squeeze a bit more money from us. When we refused to pay her anything else (we'd already checked out! She'd written it all down and calculated it and given us a receipt already!) she got angry, aggressively pushed a chair back from the table and started shouting her anger at the man there, her colleague (in Sinhala so dont know what was said). Obviously we left at that point.

In conclusion to the long story (!) it's a shame about this underhand and dishonest business model and the stroppy owner because the guesthouse is otherwise reasonable value for what it is. Our advice would be, get prices confirmed in writing especially if you are on a tight budget, because if you dont get into conflict with them over money, the place is fine to stay.

After a 4hour train journey we were welcomed with open arms by the staff here. The introduced us to an amazing tour driver who showed us the sites the next day. We were spoken to as if we were friends. Very chuffed with our stay.

We stayed there for one night yesterday. After reading the former reviews we have to say that we didnt quite understand what all rhe fuss was about, meaning: this is a simple guest house with a simpke service and decent but simple cobditions. Very basic breakfast We didnt expect more and didnt got more. Hence "average value for money". But we must tell you that they were very very nice and kind to us.

It's an old house, so the bathrooms are very old and not well. All rooms have open windows that can't be closed above the door and windows for ventilation, according to the unfriendly owner lady, so there is no protection from animals, insect and even noise. The mosquito nets are useless. Beds are squeeky and matresses are not comfortable and have bed bugs.
There is no calmness in the place, you can't sleep at night because the roof of the house is broken and about to fall off so it keeps banging all night like bombs!!!
The tours provided by this house are over priced and not worth it.
The food is average.
Don't expect a high level of hygen and cleaness.
The balcony doors can't be closed and we saw monkeys trying to come in to drink water or eat fruit so it's unsafe coz these monkeys bite!!
The house front door is closed early at night and guests have to ring the doorbell to get in and waking up everybody there.
The lady owner tried to cheat us and charge us for breakfast for 2 nights that we have already paid for. She also made us pay taxes and service charge for breakfast!!!!
We stayed 4 nights and tried all the rooms in the 3 levels none is good. I don't recommend this guest house at all.

Be careful : SWINDLES. The owners of this Guesthouse are not scrupulous: the reservations made via the Net are not recorded, the services offered are untrue (view on the lake promised, breakfast included, extra-bed for child, etc), the prices posted and negotiated at the time of the reservation evolve when we paid the room (in general offered to highest offerer, even if the reservation were made via the Net).
As many dishonesties which deserve to be relayed so that others do not undergo our nuisances, divided with other customers. The more so as the services are of small quality in comparison with the neighbouring guesthouses. Certainly the worst experiece in term of guesthouse since 12 years that we travel in Asie. A to avoid, definitively.
