We spent a very nice 2 days in Sharon Inn when we first arrived in Sri Lanka. They helpfully arranged a taxi from the airport and welcomed us with plenty of tea. The rooms are very comfy, although could do with a little bit of investment to stop them looking frayed. great hot showers. The best bit about the place is the evening food. Well worth eating there, even if you're not staying

We really enjoyed our stay at Sharon Inn. We had a room with a wonderful view over to the temple of the tooth, with a big balcony, nice furniture, air con and best of all - lovely, comfy duvets. I was also pleasantly surprised that our room was cleaned and fresh towels provided on our second day, even though we were only staying two nights. The bathrooms are pretty basic but they are clean and have hot water. We were on one of the higher floors and our room was very quiet during the evenings. The hotel is about 15 mins walk to the centre, surrounded by other guesthouses, and the journey back is steep but you can get a tuk tuk very easily if you want one.
The dinner buffet was really delicious and we had very sweet service from the waiters. The breakfast was fine but nothing special and I wonder whether an option of a Sri Lankan breakfast could be offered.
We were prepared, through reading other reviews, for the less than welcoming nature of Faiesz and he was actually really helpful, he just doesn't smile very much. Sue, his wife, was really kind to us and made us feel very held in mind.
There is a very professional feel about the Sharon Inn, while at the same time being really homely. We would definitely stay again if we come back to Kandy.

Wonder why Lonely Planet goes ga ga over it. The place is an average place that is simply over rated. We were disappointed with the rooms and also the service. The rooms are filled with tacky furniture and the bathrooms are not so clean. The view from the triple room was bad. According to the Lonely Planet, the place is filled with art. We looked but couldn't find any. The service is slow and not professional. The only saving grace was the Sri Lankan buffet served at dinner was excellent. There were about a dozen deliciously prepared dishes beautifully served on the table!

We didn't stay here, but we did have the buffet dinner here, as recommended by Lonely Planet.

For those who say that the dinner "isn't good or authentic", I argue that what you consider "authentic Sri Lankan" food comes from a 4/5 star hotel and is made by a Michelin starred chef. Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but that isn't what Sri Lankan food is about.

I can say that I've experienced Sri Lankan food 1st hand, as my friend and I were invited into our tuk tuk driver's home, where we were served a delicious multiple-curry meal by his family. It surprised me then, when a week later, I was served almost an identical meal at Sharon Inn, where many of the curries were almost exact replicas of what I had. It was delicious and true to what the country is - humble and simple.

Though we didn't stay here because the place was booked, Sue, the owner, did her best to make us feel welcome. When we needed to use the restroom, she let us use what we assumed to be her son's room's bathroom.

Later on during our trip, perhaps a week later when we had to stop through Kandy, we stayed at Amanda Hills next door, and as we walked by, she recognized us and came out and had a lovely talk with us, offering advice and words of wisdom for the rest of our trip. She is a lovely lady, and is willing to do whatever it takes to help you out.

We stayed for 2 nights in December. Unfortunately it rained continuously during our stay so it did spoil our experience of Kandy.
The rooms were clean and comfortable but the best thing was the food. We ate there both nights and found it to be incredibly tasty and authentic (mostly spicey ) with good variety. However, it was mostly the same food both nights.
The only downside for us, traveling with a 4 year old was that he could only eat the rice and poppadum and no alternative was offered.
Breakfast was also good.

We got some good travel advice from the owner Sue. However, we booked our onward minivan through her husband and paid what felt like a premium rate. We are sure that we were ripped off but we weren't in a position to find an alternative given the monsoon rain outside and travelling with a 4yr old and Grandma!

I can't comment on the facilities because we were unable to stay . The very rude and callous owners not honoring our reservation made at least 6 weeks previously .
I confirmed that we were coming 2 days before as requested , but by phone . Because i didn't do this by email, when we arrived we were told the room was gone and they were full. No hint of this was given to me in my phone conversation . I was told I needed to be there by 6pm or the room could not be held . We went to the expense of hiring a car to make sure we got there on time and arrived at 4pm to be rudely turned away , and the owners knew the Kandy Hotels were all full.
We are in our 60's and this treatment appalled us . No Sri Lankan hospitality here.

As a cheap and cheerful place to stay it ticks the right boxes, however the owners are very rude and can make for an uncomfortable stay. We were also charged a much higher price than a certain guide book suggests.
