“didn't sleep but what a great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

We had dinner at Sharon Inn and we were definitely satisfied! we didn't book in advance so we were asked to share a table, which was not a problem for us, so we had dinner together with a guy from Egypt with whom we had a nice chat. Dinner consisted in a soup, rice and curry and icecream. Everything was excellent, especially all the different vegetables! The owner was kind and the whole athmosphere was cosy.

We were initially delighted with this guest house. It is every bit as clean as everyone says, with well appointed en suite bathrooms, and the beds are very comfortable. The buffet dinner is delicious, but in our view overpriced by local standards. The big shock came at the time of paying the bill. The room prices are already relatively high, but what we were totally unprepared for was a 10% service charge, which boosted the price appreciably. It had not been mentioned at the time of booking. We have never before come across a service charge on a room. Traveller, beware!

Room Tip: Perhaps it is worth asking for a room on an upper floor to benefit from the view.

Great hotel, well priced, good location, clean rooms. Fairly brusque hotel staff but efficient and helpful. Fantastically helpful and friendly Tuk-Tuk driver, Amazing Sri Lankan buffet food - the best I had while I was on holiday. Watch out for the monkeys on the balconies - great evening entertainment watching them :) Would recommend.

One of the best guesthouses we ever stayed in !

+ exceptionally well cleaned rooms !
+ managment allways very helpful and nice ( our flight was goin in the evening so we could extend the check out time cause our room was cleaned last ! )

++ the dinner buffet is a great thing cause you get so many different things to choose and we liked it all !

the price are reasonable cause you really get something for your money !

we definetley can recommend going there !

This is definitely a guesthouse rather than hotel, and with those expectations you'll be pleased. The rooms are basic but clean and the beds are comfy. The highlight of the Sharon Inn is the dinner - a table full of home-made Sri-Lankan cooking, with many different vegetables to try, is just delicious!

Overpriced and grumpy host, 69 stairs up to our room. No water pressure in the shower. Fabulous food and views however the grumpy host friez (?) standing with folded arms grumblingly instructing us about our 11:00 pm curfew and then waiting at the door (not happy) when we came back pushed us to check out early. We had booked for 2 nights however I am 41 now and don't need to be lectured on how we must be back before 11 as they have 9 other guests and he has been up til 3 the night before! Sorry I am on holiday and really it's not my problem, neither is it my problem when other guests cancel. No air con just a fan and heavy on the mossie bites.

To be fair the food was special, really lovely. Go for dinner just don't stay over. The view from our balcony was worth the climb up the 69 stairs though.

I pointed out the poor water pressure it was greeted aggressively with a defence that the people who stayed before hadn't complained so I couldn't be right. Trust me the water pressure in the shower was terrible.

This is the first time the lonely planet guide has let me down. How it got the top choice rating is beyond me. Plus the price was double what the new edition of the lonely planet guide suggested. Be aware that its best to pay in cash as there is a 3% charge for using your card (Sue the other host tells you about this when you check in).

To sum it up the grumpy host makes you feel uncomfortable and the school type curfew is not my cup of tea. Genuinely not worth the money.

Oh by the way I am definitely not a grumbler, check out my other hotel reviews.

After reserving a room on the Internet then ringing to confirm from Colombo, we were told that our booking had been cancelled when we arrived. The owner, Sue, insisted that I had not rung and both she and the man there claimed that no phone call came through. I later redialled the number on my phone and it was answered by the Sharon Inn. Clearly they had just not registered my confirmation. Fine. We all make mistakes. An apology would have been nice. But Sue seemed determined to insist that it was all my fault and was quite rude. Luckily we found a room at St Bridget's country Bugalow. Friendly reception and staff. Lovely location. A third of the price!
