Having found out that we would be in Kandy during the festival, we had read that that you often had to reserve seats or find your place on the street very early on in the afternoon. For comfort, we opted to stay at the Queens Hotel Kandy and get a room with a balcony to watch the festivities.

The room prices are massively overly inflated for the festival period and are rather dated. The hotel has a rather ‘Fawlty Towers’ feel but we enjoyed the experience of the dated decor and huge box TV in there room. The hotel has a lot of history but does not really manage to meet the heritage style and has not really modernised with any degree of decency either. The dinner and breakfast buffets also left a lot to be desired.

However, as a place to watch the festival, courteous staff and with working amenities in the room, it was probably a good option overall.

Nice stay, in the middle of the town. Just in front of the temple. Nice colonial atmosphere needs to have some renovation but everything comes with its charm. Have a drink in the bar and close your eyes for 2 seconds!

We had a wedding ceremony over here it was a Colonial building, very suitable for traditional charming udarata weddings and Good enough space with all the facilities, spend here two nights in lake view rooms on the top floor with a wide covered verandah. Lovely views out to the lake and cooling lake breeze are so worth it with the heat. The rooms are better than in the photos, lovely bathroom and products and all very clean with contemporary touches in a gorgeous colonial building. Aircon is quiet and efficient. The staff are all so friendly and attentive and catered to all our requests. Huge breakfast of top quality with fruits, juices and choice of cooked items.. the foods were great. Our flights were changed by our airline with an awful departure time of 0100. very kindly allowed us to use our rooms until the late afternoon/early evening. I highly recommend this hotel, it is in a perfect location in historc kandy city and the staff make it a wonderful experience. The city is almost empty of tourists making it hard for the local businesses but our experience here has been fantastic. visit here & very peaceful place right now
