“Needs alot of improvement”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

We stayed in Kandy in May 2014. All in all, it was not a pleasant experience. The white tiled floors were very gritty and stained. (I don't mind a "No Shoes" policy in the least, but in this instance, it was far from ideal). The light fittings in the bedrooms had exposed wiring and the kitchenette was completely non-functional. Our blanket had these strange grey/black stains. On the first night we had a big spider in our bathroom and on the second a huge cockroach. Insects are part and parcel when travelling in warmer countries, but coupled with the dirty/grimy floors and veneer of dust coating appliances such as the kettle, we couldn't shake of the feeling of unease. This place has potential and translates very well in photos. But there needs to be alot more care and attention given to the basics like cleanliness. In many ways perhaps a well-run backpackers would have had a higher standard of cleanliness. This is not what we were expecting given the reviews on Trip Advisor. The rest of the places we booked and stayed at around Sri Lanka were fanstastic. If the owner would take the feedback on board and attend to these issues, Kandy Reach Inn has great potential given its location.

We stayed in Kandy Reach Inn in May 2014 for 3 nights based on all the great reviews. This was by far the worst place we stayed in during our 18day visit to Sri Lanka. Every other place that we stayed in SL was wonderful (ranging from small guest houses to local boutique hotels). The positives: location (it's on a hill tucked away from the chaos of Kandy) & good air-cond. That's where it ends. Like MissyPeru's review we found the place quite dirty (the walk from the living area to our bedrooms left the soles of our feet black - shoes/slippers were left at the bottom of the stairs), the sheets in Room 2 were badly stained (word of warning - don't look under the bed), most of the appliances & fittings were unusable or were not properly fitted (sockets not suitable for TV set top box, wall lights were hanging precariously by their cords, the nearest plug to the microwave was 2 meters away from the bench which the microwave couldn't reach, no cutlery were provided despite there being a kitchenette). Please be warned that the kitchenette is just for display purposes as it is non-functional (except for a small working fridge). The live-in housekeepers did not appear to have cleaned properly prior to our arrival nor had cleaned anything during the length of our stay. There was also a fair bit of pressure put on us to have dinner cooked but the price quoted was very steep (800 rupees for rice & curry per head). This would normally cost between 450-600 p/head at a decent restaurant. The laundry did not come back very clean (one white shirt had what appeared to be food or rust stains after it had been laundered). To top it all off - on our last day we were served half a loaf of mouldy bread for breakfast, accompanied with dirty teacups! Admittedly, after we pointed out the toast was all mouldy, the housekeeper quickly replaced it with a platter of local roti; though the damage was already done. I'm very sorry to leave such a negative piece of feedback, but this was a very disappointing experience. We could not wait to leave this place. This place has potential but it needs serious attention to housekeeping/details.

Great location atop a hill (Though slightly difficult to find without GPS/Google)- Good, clean rooms albeit a little small. Very conveniently located- Less than a 10 minute drive to the City Centre and the Lake. Recommended if you are looking at a quiet B&B close to the sights of Kandy.

We stayed in this small hotel for to nights. We enjoyed the stay very much mainly thanks to great hospitality of Ayoma and Disney who cooked fór us delicious dinners and Sri Lanka breakfast( highly recommend to ask for it). They were very nice and always ready to help us with anything we needed, so we felt as at home.

We stayed here after reading fabulous reviews and the photos of rooms on website looked really nice. Was very disappointed when we saw our room, it was extremely small, we had a bag on the floor on either side of the bed and you had to walk around or over our bag when we had to get to bathroom. The bathroom is extremely small and the entire floor, toilet etc gets wet after using shower. We were given one towel and had to ask for second towel and cannot understand why we are never given a bathmat if the whole bathroom gets wet after showering. Ayoma and Disney are nice and friendly but Disney does not speak any english and Ayomas is limited, so on asking where we catch the bus from and what time does bus stops running and where is train station we were not given answers and worked it out for ourselves. Most reviewers here state that the meals and rooms were really clean but we found the opposite, we thought our room, the lounge area and the front entrance were all dirty. It looks fairly new buildng or refurbished but nithing has been finished off, the walls have dirty finger and hand marks all over them, the floors are dirty, they may have been swept but who knows when they were mopped last, they were really dirty. Our toilet was dirty also. The kitchen in common area had layers of dust over everything. Our room was not cleaned once while we were there and the breakfast was average, nothing wrong with it but nothing special either. This guesthouse was one of the most expensive ones we stayed in Sri Lanka and it was our least favourite. It was not worth the money and I do not think the cleanliness is up to standard at all. I liked the two sisters but feel they were not really doing very much to enhance this guesthouse to the full extent. One early morning I wanted to speak to Ayoma, she obviously was not up yet but we had been locked in from the common hallway so if there was an emergency, fire etc we would not have been able to exit the building. We did not enjoy our stay here and when we left we went to a much cheaper guesthouse in Kandy and enjoyed it so much more.

Our stay at kandy reach inn was great. The room was lovely and clean and the views from the balcony spectacular. Ayomi and her sister were great hosts and their cooking is delicious. We would highly recommend staying here.

The location of the guesthouse was up the hill, so there was no noise from the main road and you have this amazing view. We had a warm welcome. by Ayoma and her sister Disney. They can make the most wonderful Sri Lankan breakfast! Just try it! The rooms were clean and modern. The bathroom was a little small.
