“Decent place to stay in Kandy for a few nights.”
Reviewed May 11, 2014

Average guest house although the owner was very friendly even after I returned late and had to wake him to let me in (I should have told them so I'd have had a key!) Room was ok although there were quite a few ants in my bathroom.

We came there by a mistake but stayed after negotiating a price we would accept. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, mainly the hotel owner was really doing his best make us feel comfortable. There is beautiful terrace also and monkeys can be seen stealing mangos :)

The room itself was nothing special, it smelled strange and the shower was not very clean, but the staff was very friendly, the food was good, and the wooden terrace was nice.to sit in the evening. The owner arranged train tickets for us and let us use his phone, very friendly! Also the other staff is nice, especially the brother of the owner and Indika :-)

We negotiated a reasonably priced room in the back where it was quiet. Once we sent our tuk tuk away, they stalled and tried to switch us to a room in a noisier area with no ensuite.

They sold us tickets to see the Kandyan dancers and promised to include transport via tuk tuk but when we were ready to leave, they advised us that their tuk tuk was broken and we would have to pay for our own transport. They gave instructions to the tuk tuk driver but we were taken to the wrong place. After much negotiation we saw the show but it was a huge hassle. I would suggest that you pay in person if you take in the show.

Neither of these things would be cause me to write a negative review had they not harrassed us constantly, trying to sell us tours, etc. Every time we stepped out of our room, two or three of them would surround us and ask us about our personal plans. When we claimed that we had no plans they were downright rude to us. After a 30 minute check out process, we donned our backpacks and snuck out, ignoring their questions.

Room Tip: I liked the room in the back where it was quiet.

We found this hotel at Saranankara Road. A bit of a climb up the slope with a heavy backpack. There is a construction right opposite, it was noisy. We chose a room at the back outside of the main building. It was cheapest but we escape the noise. The room was isolated but comfortable. The 2 staff Mayuran and Pavi were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was good but expensive.

Room Tip: Choose room at the back to escape the noisy construction but wifi is not reachable.

We stayed in Mango Garden hotel in Kandy for two nights. The location is good, at walking distance from the main attractions. Friendly staff, nice food and a bed with 'real' matrasses, the hotel is a good option to stay in Kandy.

Afterwards we hired a driver through the hotel, this proved to be a very good choice. Wajira drove us around for 6 days, in a very relaxed (un-Sri Lankan) style, which was nice after some survival of the fittest experiences in busses and tuktuks. He was very good company, not only when explaining about Sri Lanka, but also one evening when he joined us for dinner.
