OK for a nights sleep with good food and pleasent service but the rooms were not kept in good order with failiures here and there. We had for example to ask for an other room at the arrival due to you could not even close the door properly. The beds are comfortable but the bathrooms. are a bit tacky and too small. Why not keep the beautifully placed hotel in a better order?

I've red all the bad reviews about this hotel after staying there for 2 nights and was surprised a little. Cause my room and my bathroom were small but clean, with a window. Towels were also clean. Breakfasts are like everywhere (toasts, fresh juice, eggs), but the dinner menu is wonderful. I tried a very tasty fried fish with boiled vegetables and rice the first evening and on the second one I've tried an amazing chicken cooked in the green sauce. The staff is very friendly and polite. I guess, the management has been changed. But yes, it's steel far away from the center. You need a car to go.

The moment we entered the room, we knew this was a bad choice. The four walls in the room were all of different colors. It seemed like the color combination of the decor seemed way off. We were on a package tour, tired from our drive from Sigriya, so we went on and stayed the night. The bathroom was dirty, very dirty. There was used soap by the shower. The floor in the room looked like it hadn't been cleaned. When we looked out of our window, we could see the swimming pool which looked filthy! We couldn't sleep very well through out the night. The only good experience we had with this place was our dinner. We were supposed to stay two nights in the hotel, but checked out after a night's stay. (Obviously!!)

We stayed here as part of a tour organised by Rail Tours. The photos we were shown must have been taken some years ago as the hotel is now quite run down and could do with a good clean up. The pool had a layer of grease so we didn't venture in! Our room was right beside the dining area which is not ideal as it can be noisy depending on the diners. Also our bedroom window didn't close properly until my partner fixed it! The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were greeted well on arrival. We also had dinner here as we were limited on time and it was good. However I think for your money you should get better value.

Service staff was nice and helpful. Room was ok, but remember to ask for a one with windows. Nice view - as the hotel is on the hill. We didn't order food, so we do not know its quality, but they had tasty non-alco fruit drinks.

Room Tip: Try to book a room with windows :)

Ancient Lanka is a long way from the main sights of Kandy and we opted to have dinner there rather than go back into Kandy along the winding, potholed roads. This was a big mistake as my husband - who ate some salad and chicken - was very sick. Don't believe the slick brochure. The rooms are dark and the bathroom fittings fall off. The owners also insisted we go to a gem shop which was a rip off. They also told us the train to Colombo was unreliable because of floods and we were better off going in their van. We found out later that the trains were running on time.

It is the worst hotel I have ever seen. The exterior frontal view was not even bad, it gave us even hope to find somethind similar inside as well. But the rooms were filthy and everythind in them was broken. The bed itself was comfortable, but sheets were dirty, washing conditions were practically non-existent, toilet seat was filthy and water was trickling out of the shower tap, the toilet + shower room itself was on the little dirty balcony, you had to go there thru the balcony. My husband went to toilet and could not get back into the room anymore, the door to the room got scotched. So he had to pound hardly to the door hoping somebody will hear it.... The view from the balcony and from the window was 20 cm, then started high cliff, practicly they were facing against the stone-wall. The curtains were never washed... and so on

Room Tip: no room!!!!! avoid this hotel!!!!
