In my opinion it’s best to go to the temple in the evening around 6:30pm at dusk. The temples lights up and you get to witness the ceremonies in the temple. It was a great experience and culturally enriching.

We went there on a Sunday and apparently it was a monthly occasion for the local people, worst thing to do is going in a Sunday. Too crowded.
Went again another day and it was fine, you have to take off shoes for a desk on the right side. A long walk shoeless.
We did it without a guide, not best thing to do but we didn’t find a trusted one.
A cool visit, not bad. Different spot to see.

Interesting building and a great way to see a sacred place. Annoyingly large amounts of people trying to rip you off/offer you tours which gets very tiresome after a while

Large Buddhist temple and surrounding buildings and grounds. Lord Buddha’s tooth relic is here and can be seen on special occasions. The most spiritual place for Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Make sure your shoulders and knees are covered, both men and women.
