“Interesting historical sight”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

The ticket price is 500rs per person and it's worth it. What you get is a round tour from one of the guides inside (if you want). They will tell you everything about the tea production and how the tea process is working and the history behind it. No question is to hard to answer for them. Lots of pictures on the walls on the upper floors and instruments that was used in the 1800s. Loved it!

“Good history”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

Nicely maintained museum. Would have been good to have a guide. 4 floors of history.

Had a small restaurant, but it was closed when we visited

“ok...but....”

If you never went to a tea structure or museum it is worth going. Interesting to hear/see the history of Ceylon tea. The staff is friendly. Too bad you have to pay to get in.

“Lots of insights into tea making for those with the time to look”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

This is not a working tea factory (once you have seen one of those you have seen them all!) but rather a well presented collection of old equipment and artefacts in an old factory building. We arrived first thing in the morning and were given a well-informed tour of the lower floors by a smartly dressed guide. Although the guide was not allowed to wait whilst we read everything we wanted to, she did indicate that after the tour was over we would be free to wander round at our leisure. After the tour we headed up to the top floor where we had what we rated as the best cup of tea on our entire holiday. On the other hand if you just want to see a noisy 19th century factory filling in time (because the tea processing is done at night) then they are two a penny elsewhere in Sri Lanka. This place is however unique.
Do yourself a favour - take a guide to show you round first.
