“A great way to experiene Sri Lanka”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

We did not stay at the guesthouse, however this is the second time we have used the services of Mr Linton and in particular our driver Tissa. On my brother and his wife. Our trip was organised to cater for both couples - we enjoyed safaris, surfing, walking, mountain climbing and eating. Tissa, our driver, was just the most knowledgeable, patient and genuinely kind person. Very happy to give this recommendation to Blue Haven Guest House tours.

Mr. Linton is the owner of this tour agency. We met him in the Colombo railway station after contacting him based on a listing in Lonely planet. He listened to our ideas of our vague itinerary for our week long trip through Sri Lanka and then put it together for us practically. It was very clear from the beginning that he cares about maintaining high business standards as he felt that each trip is important to his company's reputation. He also clearly understood the needs of travelers in general and wanted our trip to be a good value and amazing experience. While on the trip, we did have an issue with our trip and how it was handled however we contacted Mr. Linton by email and he fixed it beyond belief. He is an honorable man and runs an honorable business.

Our driver, Tissa was absolutely excellent! We can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with him. He went well out of his way to make sure we saw everything along the route of our travels. He is an expert bird watcher and pointed out so many during our trip. In addition, he gave us so much historical and cultural background. His enthusiasm for travel and for making sure tourists get to see his beautiful country was absolutely fantastic.

We stayed in the Blue Haven hotel the first night of our travels. It was clean and simple. It had beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

I highly recommend this tour agency, but my only regret was that we never got an official copy of our final itinerary. Our driver was fantastic but did not know our itinerary and thus we had to keep referring to our rough copy which had many cross outs and parts of longer itineraries. We should have asked for this when paying but we didn't so I don't hold it against Blue Haven Tours. I would just recommend asking for an official itinerary for any future travelers. We would definitely use Blue Haven Travels next time we are in Sri Lanka. Thank you Tissa and Mr. Linton!

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor and it was very large, clean and had a beautiful view of the surrounding...

Whilst we didn't stay in the guesthouse we did stumble across Blue Haven Tours in Kandy, and we were really glad we did. We booked a trip up North and East followed by a pick up and two day drive back down to Negombo, and off back to Europe. We had a superb time, the two day trip with our Driver, Saman, was the best part of our entire fortnight. We spent much of our time laughing and joking as we drove around, and we got all the help we needed from Sam. He was such a joy that we both missed him when we said 'goodbye' in Negombo! I'd reccomend Blue Haven any time and if you want some fun to boot then see if Saman is available!

Rooms: As mentioned, the ones on the first floor are small and damp and in dire need of an upgrade. The bed sheets were dirty and not big enough.

Owner: Seems only interested in your money. We wanted to take a day-trip by train to Nuwara Eliya. Mr Linton told us that the train would be too full and impossible to get tickets at the station. Instead, he offered us transport in his new mini-bus for $2,000 rupees each. We declined, but he managed to convince two other couples. At the station we had no problem getting tickets for a few hundred rupees, and needless to say had a fantastic time on the train. When we got back that evening, Mr Linton did everything he could to avoid talking to us.

Overall: This place has great potential (the balcony view is great, and we actually enjoyed the location), but the lack of genuine hospitality made it our worst stay (by far) in all of Sri Lanka.

Dear Sir / Madam,
Thank you for taking a few minutes to review our service on Tripadvisor.

Since your visit here in December 2012, all our rooms have been renovated, a brand new top floor with superior quality rooms and a swimming pool has been opened.

Guests can take the train or a tour to Nuwara Eliya. The former is transport only. Second class train tickets in Sri Lanka are cheap but do not guarantee a seat as more tickets can be sold than seats in the couch, so it is a pot luck to get a seat. Some guests would not like to take the chance of standing on a crowded train for several hours.

A sight seeing tour is more than just transport as our drivers stop at waterfalls, tea plantations, tea estates, off the beaten track visits and any other break for food or refreshments, according the wish of our guests. Therefore taking a train or a private sigh seeing tour are not strictly comparable, while our rates are highly competitive compared to the market place.

I booked a tour with Blue Haven and stayed in Sri Lanka for eight nights. My driver/guide Nisha was very attentive and knowledgeable
about the culture and history of the country. I stayed in the Blue
Haven Guest House for a total of three nights. The staff members are very
friendly and the view from the guest house is breathtaking. They
served a decent breakfast (fresh fruit, tea or coffee, eggs and toast)
and overall, the cost of my tour was very affordable which is why I
chose Blue Haven. What made my tour memorable though was the driver.
Nisha was very professional, courteous, spoke English and really cared
about my well-being. I was on a tight budget so he made sure that I got a
good deal on everything which I appreciated. I would go there again
because of him. Thank you Nisha!

We arrived at kandy station, after the visually interesting trip from Colombo Fort. The tourist train is ok. But try to get near the a/c unit seats at the rear of the carriage ,away from the tv screen,if you're too hot from waiting at the fort station. Also try to get seats on the right going out for more interesting views, as you climb the 500 mts upto kandy. We were met as promised by Linton, by the hotel people carrier. The room we had was in the new wing, overlooking the pool and valley below. Shower room and toilet clean. Be aware of slippery tiles stepping out of the shower. As you would expect. It's a Sri Lankan 20 min walk to town.down a long and windy road. Take a tuk tuk for about 200!R. Be sure to confirm price coming back,as it can vary and is interesting to discuss after the ride from town. I believe their was a dispute with the chef, when we stayed. I found the food to be ok. Just a little bit of confusion with some orders. Staff are very helpful and the new pool is very nice to cool down in. Staff are always helpful and keen to teach Sri Lankan phrases.

This review is just about our trip with Mr. Linton's "Blue Heaven Tour" and his exceptional driver Praba Prabagaran. It does not cover the guest house.
We met Mr. Linton by accident at the train station Colombo and we where so glad we did! Before the 2 parents and the 2 grown up kids 20 and 21 years old had a corse idea what to explore in Sri Lanka in 2 to 3 weeks. Mr. Linton proposed the beginning of tour: we did the exceptional train ride from Colombo to Kandy. At the train station Kandy our driver and guide Praba picked us up and transfered us to the guest house we booked 3 nights ourself before. From Kandy we did trips to Dambulla, Anuradhapura and to some other destinations. By phone we booked more trips: Kandy - Arugambay - Necombo - Trincomalee - Colombo airport with many stop overs and sight seeings. All worked out just great! Praba is such a nice person. His very calm, deliberate and sympathic character, his flexible way to arrange everything to our moods and likes whas just great. We can say, all we booked was verry reasonable in price. Great was the flexibility we had. Our trip was developed during our stay. With the help of Mr. Linton and our guide and driver Praba this was possible! Thank you so much!
