“A wonderful place to stay in Kandy”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed at Baramba House for three nights at the end of January 2013. The whole experience was fantastic - lovely large rooms, private verandahs and a communal sitting room to relax in. We had superb breakfasts and enjoyed the small swimming pool with their relaxing sunbeds, Most of all we appreciated the warm welcome and care from the owners, Barbara and her husband. The view was fabulous as well!

We were lucky enough to stay at such an amazing place for the first 2 nights of our Sri Lankan holiday. We had 2 rooms, the 3rd being vacant meaning we had the whole place to ourselves.

I slept wonderfully in the comfortable beds and I could not think of a better place to wake up in on my 30th birthday

The house is so beautiful you have to see it for yourself (go on, book it!). The garden and the view, just stunning.

There is a 10-12m pool where we could take our morning swim. If I must stay something that can be improved upon, and I can only think of this one thing, it is that the pool did not appear to be heated (but once you're in, it's fine) :)

Oh and the road leading up to the house is quite steep and can be a bit scary, especially at night. But it's nothing to worry about really.

Thanks for a lovely stay, if I am ever in Kandy again I'll be sure to come back to Baramba House!

Number One on Trip Advisor and easy to see why. This is an architect designed two storey house, five or six years old, built on a hillside with spectacular views to valley below and hills around Kandy. The delightful Swiss and Sri Lankan owners live on the first floor with the guest guest accommodation on the ground floor. There are three superb bedrooms with quality en suites, a superb lounge with breakfast area and fitted kitchen with a self catering option. All is contemporary in style with lovely touches. All the rooms have far reaching views, and access to immaculate gardens on two levels with a swimming pool.
Barbera and Sandhu are a great team, providing enthusiastic help and advice while providing a fantastic breakfast with home made bread, tea and all the bits! Nothing is too much trouble from organising a tuk tuk into town ( only around a pound or so ) to arranging a taxi to move us from Negombo to Ella.
Many thanks - we wish you every continued success. Regards Sue and Jon

Room Tip: Spoilt for choice - they're all good

What more can be said about Baramba House that isn't a repetition of everything that has been said before? The house and gardens are beautiful, the owners Barbara and Sandun are attentive, friendly and helpful. The accommodation was delightful, the breakfast was a wonderful start to the two days we were there. If we try hard to find anything negative to say, the road up to the house was a bit of a struggle and most suitable for small vehicles. Well worth a trip to Kandy just to experience this little bit of heaven.

What a wonderful place to stay! We had originally booked in to stay for 3 nights, but extended this as we felt so relaxed and at home after long days touring through the Cultural Triangle. It's a small guest house, about 5-10min tuk tuk ride to Kandy town, set on the side of a peaceful hill overlooking the valley and river below. We were ofter the only people their, sitting on the verandah at night as the thousands of bats flew overhead or swimming in the pool. The service was amazing and the best value property we stayed at during our holiday in Sri Lanka .The breakfasts were one of our highlights - Barbara's homemade bread and mango jam was the best! Would recommend this place for anyone lookig for a bit of piece and quiet in Kandy. We hope to visit again some day.

Baramba House is a great place to stay with personal touch. House is brand new and decorated/furnished with taste. Breakfast is delicious and served personally by owners.
Location & pool allow rest from buzz of hectic Kandy.

During our stay we were the only guests so we had all place only for ourselves

Definitely recommended!

We stayed two nights here and our time could not have been better. The room, lounge area, view and pool were fantastic topped only by the friendly and kind owners. We felt right at home, totally relaxed and slept very well. Breakfast was suberb, the best we had in Sri Lanka with homemade bread, muffins and jams. We left at 5am and were heartbroken about missing breakfast but Barbara and her husband got up with fresh coffee and packed breakfast for our train journey! We will return next time we are in Sri Lanka.
