“HOME AWAY FROM HOME”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

Am still here while writing this review in case I will not b able to connect without wifi. Stayed here on the 25th n again today 27th of March. It was highly recommended by my brother n his family as they too stayed here last year. The host Kumari is amazingly accommodating , going all her way to Akers sure you are comfortable and safe while out. Each time you return back after being out in town she greets you with a "welcome home" greeting and the sweetest smile ever. Breakfast is simple but with all the love added in while preparing it makes the difference I guess. We were away in ANURADHAPURA on the 26th and we were really looking forward to return to Kandy and her home. It was also the hottest and best shower I had since being in Sri Lanka, the towels were crisp clean.Kumari is on her toes at all times providing information and making sure your itinerary in Kandy is well organised. In conclusion it is worth staying here as it is definitely home away from home.

We stayed two nights in Madugalle guesthouse while visiting Kandy. It is a beautifull guesthouse at a great spot. Just a walk down the road and you are in front of the temple of tooth. It is difficult to find the guesthouse from the street, because there is not a big sign out front, but with a quick call you will find it in no time. Inside it is a beautifull old house and some parts of the house are out in the open which makes it very special. All the plants in the main area are very nice. The room size is good and you have a double bed with two single mosquito nets, this makes it difficult to sleep togheter. The small bathroom is clean and you have a hot shower. The host is very kind, helpfull and a lovely person. Breakfast is served in the dining area, which is nice and basic with eggs, fruit and toast and jam. This is a really nice place to stay when you are exploring Kandy. There is free wifi access in the guesthouse. We thought Kandy is nice for a day

We stayed at Madugalles guest house for 3 nights in Jan 2013. Kumari (the owner) is just lovely and went out of her way to be helpful and kind. The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed looking at their interesting pictures and artefacts collected over the years; it gave a real sense of real sri lankan life. Location wise, its perfect, being a stones throw away from the temple of the tooth and despite being in the middle of a bustling city, it feels like a quiet green oasis. So many plants! the place feels loved and is well maintained and look after. Its also a total bargain! We loved it and wished we could have stayed longer.

Sadly we stayed at this lovely place for only one night. The location is really good and the rooms are nice. The bathroom was the nicest we had so far. The owner is also very kind. From the outside it doesnt look like a guesthouse but as soon as you enter it is very charming.

Family Guest House is maintained by a very friendly and nice lady with the 'team'. The location is excellent, on the main road not even a kilometer from the lake and the main attractions. We remained three nights, but having dinner only the first night. It was not best curry in Sri Lanka. But breakfast is exellent. The rooms are basic, dining room is a little museum - the ancestors of the owners were by the time of the British Empire important members of the community. Slightly dusty dining room.

Had a lovely stay here last month. The service was incredible, nothing was too much trouble and we felt like we were at home!
From the outside it is easy to miss but once you get inside it is an absolutley gorgeous house.
We had some clothes washed and when we asked the price we were just asked to give a donation which was a nice touch.
Kumari was very helpful and informative when we were making plans for day trips and was one of the nicest people we met in Sri Lanka.
Would definately recommend a stay in this guesthouse.

We stayed here as 2 19yr old backpackers for 3 nights in Feb '13. We paid 3500San
R (£17.50)  per night for a double room, non AC. Breakfast  included. Free wifi but very poor signal.

Room - we had room 4 on the first floor. It was a good size with a functioning mosquito net. Very clean. However it is right next to the train tracks and is seriously noisy. Day and night. Earplugs essential.

Food - Breakfast consisted of a banana, a slice of papaya a fried egg and all you can eat toast. Highlands tea which is nice. Other meals are provided upon request . We had a great dinner for 800SKR a piece. Definitely recommend the home-cooked food!

Service - Kumari is super sweet and helpful. She directed us where to go and where to buy saris at a good price. We got our washing done very well and then asked to give a donation..

Location - Everything isn't as close as advertised, a short 100SKR tuktuk will get you anywhere in town.

Overall a great place to stay - the atmosphere is really welcoming and homely. Definitely recommended.
