This is a thought provoking insight into the lives and deaths of those young people who came to Sri Lanka in the early days from the UK (England and 'North Britain'). It is tidy and carefully maintained by Mr Charles Carmichael and his assistant. Mr Carmichael is the grandson of a Scottish settler and an Indian lady. His knowledge is immense and his demeanour is delightful. While previous reviewers have commented that 'tips' are not necessary, I found that Mr Carmichael was extremely grateful for my donation. By all outward appearances, he could do with it. Recommended to those with an interest in accessing some real insight into the colonial history of Sri Lanka / Ceylon. Our Sri Lankan guide (who had never before been here) found it fascinating.

This is an incredibly atmospheric small cemetary only a few minutes walk from the lake. The caretaker and his grandson are very informative. We 'popped in' for a short visit and emerged a couple of hours later. Don't miss the small chapel and please leave a donation - we saw a couple of other very neglected and overgrown cemeteries in Sri Lanka - this one is impeccably maintained and a credit to the caretakers.

Worth visiting to see the well-kept graves of so many young people, mainly men, who met their deaths in Sri Lanka due to the climate or disease.
