We spent 7 days in Jungle Tide and had a truely lovely time. We could easily have stayed longer. The setting is beautiful, the house is very comfortable with nice rooms and Martin & Rani the housekeepers are just fantastic. The food that Rani made was delicious, we enjoyed each and every meal. Martin was incredibly helpful, especially when we had to find a garage in Kandy when the a/c in our car packed up. The walks in the area are wonderful, our children loved running around in the garden and really enjoyed the walks. We wished we could have made more walks but we also wanted to explore Kandy. The road to Jungle Tide is fine except indeed for the last bit, which is pretty bad. But we didn't find it that hard to negotiate and to be honest the 30-40 min drive out of Kandy isn't bad at all when you see what you get. We really enjoyed swimming in the pool, the setting is lovely. It almost felt like swimming amongst the trees. Jerry and Sally have created a lovely home and we hope to visit Jungle tide again in the future.

We had come to Kandy to see the Elephant Festival and booked quite late so this was one of the last places available. We finished quite late in town and then headed to Jungle Tide after an evening. They did warn us about the distance from Kandy and low quality roads, but it did take a bit longer than expected to get there.

However, we were greeted warmly on arrival and when we woke in the light of morning, we found ourselves in a magical location amongst the tea estates. There is still work going on around the grounds and the potential is very exciting. The rooms were clean and adequate.

The defining feature of this place is the tranquility of its location. It would be great to have a very relaxing few days here - perhaps for artists. As an extra, it is worth popping into the tea museum a couple of kilometres on the way back to Kandy.

Stayed with family for two nights - had booked two rooms in this property. We were looking for a "home stay" and not another "star" hotel.

Jungle Tide is located further inside the tea estates and getting there could be a little daunting. However once you reach, book shelf at the entrance, the living room, the rooms, the curtains and Martin welcome you as if it is your home! We reached very late - around 10pm at Jungle Tide. Even at this hour, Martin was energetic and ready to help us with any food that was available. We ordered for milk and got it served at our rooms. The rooms were clean, tidy and spacious. The entire property was well furnished with a great attention to detail. Never expected "Wi-Fi" to be available in this location!

If the credit of building this beautiful property goes to Sally and Jerry, the credit of making the experience an unforgettable one goes to Martin and Rani. Ever-ready to serve and not wishing to miss even a small opportunity to help you, Martin is a "perfect" example of how to "treat customers". In my opinion, Martin deserves to teach those at "star" hotels how to treat customers and more than that, how to serve customers selflessly! Rani's cooking skills deserve a special mention. "Pol Sambol" - we hogged this item like crazy on both the days we were here, would love to go back just to eat it!! I was fortunate to know Tamil so that I could speak to Martin for few hours into the night and learn about his life. God bless these two people!!

Kudos to Sally and Jerry - I did get to read some of your book and it was great to know about your experience in Sri Lanka and how you built this property! Your meticulous planning, keeping in mind the "traveller", amazes me when I think about it even now!

This is the place to stay if one is in Kandy! I would love to go back to this place and stay a little longer!!

Room Tip: If you do not have a personal vehicle at your disposal you may find it difficult to reach Jungle Tid...

We are not tourists in the conventional way as my wife was born in Sri Lanka and we visit annually, normally staying in the usual tourist hotels but this time we decided to have a complete change and really struck lucky. The bungalow is very modern and well appointed and, as others have said, Martin and Rani are real gems, they looked after us and our driver superbly, cooking delicious curries and other delights. Our driver commented that his room could do with a small table and chair; we relied on his laptop and dongle for email communication that was affected by heavy rain. Laundry and ironing being done was a real treat for my wife. Martin lead us around the tea estate on the buddist new year day when we were greeted enthusiastically by the local village people, he showed us local fauna and flora including cobra nests so the garden visit from the local mongoose was appreciated! The views were wonderfull especally the early morning low lying couds in the valleys. The evening G&T on the balcony is the only way to experience the peace and tranquility here. It was an experience that we would repeat.

Thank you so much for this lovely review! We only wanted to clarify that the cobra nest you came across will have been somewhere in the surrounding area, not in our garden!

Jungle Tide's website or pictures on tripadvisor do not really tell the real story about this place. One has to visit and stay here to really know what Jungle tide is about. Jungle Tide was the most personable experience we had in Sri Lanka. After a lot of research we zeroed in on Jungle Tide. Initial exchange of e-mails with Sally and Jerry gave us a lot of confidence while booking our stay at Jungle Tide.

Martin and Rani, our lovely hosts at Jungle Tide made sure we felt at home through our stay at Jungle Tide. We were served lovely homemade food and were very happy to customize the menu for us. Jungle Tide also have the option for self cooking.

Rooms are well appointed and very clean. Sleep quality was awesome. There are no air conditioning at Jungle Tide. One would rarely need it. Bathrooms are clean and very functional. We had a small issue with hot water, but we could manage.

Collection of music at Jungle tide is worth mentioning. I was fortunate enough to find some good jazz music to enjoy while at Jungle Tide.

Jungle Tide is surrounded by beautiful landscape. I highly recommend staying at Jungle tide and exploring its neighborhood for a day. We missed doing this while we were at Jungle Tide.

We used Jungle tide as our base to visit Sigiriya and Dambula. It was a bit far, but I am very happy with out decision. Martin arranged packed breakfast for us when we had to leave early in the morning for Sigiriya. Martin also spent sometime for us, going out of his way to help us to find our next stay at Nuwara Eliya

A special thanks to Sally and Jerry for accommodating us. Martin and Rani for being the best hosts and human beings that they are.

Room Tip: One need not be choosy here. All rooms are equally good. Be careful with the door mat in the living...

After a very interesting ride through the tea plantation up the mountain, you arrived in this gorgeous hidden gem just outside Kandy. The room was luxurious and everything was spotless. Huge french windows open up to the garden where we spent many afternoons sipping tea and just admiring the surroundings. Martin (the house keeper) and his wife Reni are ever so welcoming and attentive. They cooked amazing food and they did all our laundry when we were out.
We loved it so much that we actually changed our itinerary so that we could spend more time just being here.
The road to get there is poorly maintained, best to come in a 4x4. Or you would end up with one very angry driver, like ours.
A little note, we were expecting a swimming pool but when we arrived it was still under construction. Hope that is completed soon to make Jungle Tide even more perfect.

Room Tip: The one by the dinning table. It has a queen size bed and it is HUGE!!!

I had booked 3 rooms for 3 nights at Jungle Tide & we were travelling with a 3 year old, parents & parents-in-law (one of us is a wheelchair user) and I can only say that Jungle Tide was the best part of our stay in Sri Lanka. The house itself is beautiful - set amongst the serene & remote tea estates with fantastic views. The lawns & are impeccably maintained - loads of space for our 3 year old to run around. The verandah surrounding all the rooms are a fantastic retreat over-looking the garden. I would definitely recommend an early morning walk - the wildlife & birds are a rare treat for us city dwellers.
Inside the house - all the living space have been furnished beautifully! Spacious rooms & luxurious living space & bathrooms make for a very comfortable stay. The bed linen & towels are of very good quality too. The kitchen is kitted out with all the modern amenities - you would think you are in London!!! And there is plenty of bottled water, tea, milk etc available (& for free too!). I had no problem in refrigerating and heating up milk for the kid.
The best part was being looked after by Martin & Rani - nothing was too much for them! We ended up having most of the meals here & the food was absolutely scrumptious & plenty!
Thank you, Sally & Jerry for letting us share your lovely house! We hope to be back whenever we return to Sri Lanka!

Room Tip: All rooms are great & facing the lovely garden
