I had booked Randholee resort over the phone after we reached Colombo and I picked the phone number from the tourism brochure I picked at the airport. Wasnt biased by any reviews. It was moderately priced (though they charge a very high exchange rate) and appeared fairly new on arrival. We transferred to Kandy after staying at Dumbulla and had heard a lot about the cultural heritage at Kandy. It was a long drive with young kids and by the time we reached the Hotel it was around 9 in the night. The hotel is placed on a high hill overlooking the quaint town Kandy. So the road to the hotel is full of turns and steep. Since we reached at night the sign boards also were a little difficult to locate.
The reception and lobby is well done. We were given a room on the second floor overlooking the city and it was a beautiful sight esp in the morning when the mist would clear. The room had a very artistic touch to it and was quiet spacious, with a balcony. The bathroom was also large equipped with a tub enclosed in glass. I found the porcelain mini urns for the toiletries very novel and cute. My kids had ample space to play in the room.
We stayed there for two days in total. The breakfast spread was adequate with Sri Lankan, Continental, Indian and English food served. The pool is also open air (not temp controlled though for a cold day) and is built to give the effect as if it merges into the skies (see snap). It was a very pleasant stay here. Only the drive up to the hotel is a bit time consuming.

Immaculately clean, light, spacious, modern hotel. A lovely, peaceful place to relax and unwind. The rooms have balconies with views across the hills. The downside is that it is 20 mins from Kandy up a steep pot-holed road and if you don't have transport taxis are quite expensive getting to and from the hotel. Also, you are totally reliant on the hotel for meals. The breakfast was not inspiring and the buffet dinner very expensive at $20 for a very average spread, really poor value.

Speaking about advantages first:
+ breathtaking view from the window. This view made our stay really worth it!
+ Christmas 2010 celebration was very sweet with carols singing and gifts giving. The Christmas menu was also nice.
+ the hotel interior and surrounding is okay
+ nice breakfasts
+ free Internet access

Disadvantages:
- the apartment didn't feel cozy.
- corner sandwiches we had for dinner were worst ever tried. Though the fresh mixed juice quite fine.
- untidy waiters.

We were due to make our over night stay at the Chayaa Citadel, but 4 weeks before our trip we were told we were staying at the "Redholee" hotel which we could not find on Trip Advisor for obvious reasons.

The location is stunning if you can get to the hoel, the access road from Kandy is steep, narrow and missing most of road surface in most places. It is a long way out of Kandy as others have noted and not somewhere you can just go elsewhere for a stroll before dinner.

Despite arriving and leaving our cases in our companions' room, on our return, we were informed that we were not on their list and had no room for us. Having now read through the reports, this seems to be a familiar complaint with regard to this hotel. Eventually, after much huffing, puffing and shuffling of paper, we were provided with a rear ground floor room looking at the buiilding site of the new extension and small car park. When we arrived there was a a large wedding in progress and I wonder if this was the reason for the less than fulsome welcome.

In fairness, the rooms at the rear of the hotel have a window onto the corridor, from which you can enjoy the views across Kandy, if you want to stand up or sit in the corridor. It was clean and roomy, and the bed was comfortable, but these are the only positives I can think of.

The evening meal was adequate without being unusual, but the breakfast was luke warm at best and quite unappetising. Our travelling companions ordered a bottle of wine with the evening meal, but no one could find a corkscrew as they were 'all in the rooms'. How do you work that one out?

The staff were freindly and tried hard, but everything seemed to be disjointed and this can only be the fault of the management.

The parking is limited and it is difficult to turn if you can get in. Internet access was free an did work very well.

We were glad to leave and move on to Nuwara Eliya.

We stayed at Randholee for 02 nights during our visit to Sri Lanka. The resort is undoubtedly a stunning structure up in the hills. The early morning misty mountains around it are magnificent. The staff was very friendly and attentive, one should get the full board as it is bit far from Kandy city
Me and my family enjoyed the stay at the Resort.

We were picked up from the railway station on time by two friendly staff and travelled a narrow road before arriving at the main gates of a beautiful complex. We were warmly welcomed with warm towels to freshen up from our journey and a refreshing free drink. We were also offered free head massages which we took up later in our stay.

Our room was clean, large and oppulent with breath taking views over Kandy. The enormous glass doors and window gave a feeling of being in the outdoors.

The food was well presented and tasted delightful and was served by staff who were friendly, always smiling and cheerful.

Staff were very helpful in arranging our accomodation for the next part of our trip as well as organising transport for our trip to the Elephant Orphange etc.

We would highly recommend the Randholee for value for money and a relaxing, cheerful atmosphere. Staff couldn't do enough to help us. Not to be missed.

On arrival they thought we wanted a single room, but eventually we were shown to a double room which was very damp. The next morning we woke up to such humidity that the whole of the bedroom floor was wet as were the bed clothes and everything else in the room.
On the face of it, a lovely place in a lovely position, but the food was at best average and the hotel is miles from Kandy up a steep hill with an almost impassable road. If you don't want the long hike, a round trip into Kandy by taxi will $50.
