“Clean, airy and lovely owners.”
Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

The Sevana is a nice little place on one of the main roads in Kandy. Don't be deceived by the exterior inside is a guest house which is very clean and run by a really lovely family. They are so keen to ensure you have a good stay (they have a tuk tuk so can help with excursions at competitive rates).

The rooms are clean and light and the location is excellent for the station (5min walk) and the Tooth Temple (15min walk). Breakfast is included in the price and mightily filling and there's no shortage of recommendations for where to eat if you're going out.

The rooms are decent value though they are more than advertised on Trip Advisor.

Stay here if you want a nice piece of Kandy away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

PROS: 1. Great location if you don't want to be on top of the hill. We were here for Vesak Poya and it was right in the middle of all the fun!
2.This guesthouse has been running for THIRTY years and you would NEVER guess it. Sakunthala asked me how old I thought the guesthouse was and I guessed 2 years. They have freshly painted walls and extremely comfortable beds and pillows. It seems they have been maintaining the place well.
3. Great breakfast. You will see....

CONS: 1. I really don't understand why the internet can only be on from 7am-10pm. There must be a way around this?
2. A bit pricier at 2750 for a single bed but if you shop around most places are around 2000 and the rooms at 1000-1500 are a bit dismal or out of the way (which is not good for a solo female traveller).

Well located, very clean and comfortable guesthouse in centre of town. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere and a good base to explore all major sites. The host family were extremely helpful and are able to provide good advice on planning travel in the area. I would certainly return.

Located close to the train station and the main bus station, this guesthouse sits amongst the more local strip of Peradeniya Rd. Don't expect views here, but instead a clean, well-kept guesthouse, run professionally by a helpful and courteous family. Rates aren't as cheap as some other guesthouses around the lake, but you get what you pay for.

Rooms are neat, clean and comfortable, with modern bathroom fittings as well with hot water if you need it. You won't need air-con here either, as the rooms are kept quite cool with just a fan. Pillows were the most comfortable I had during my entire Sri Lanka trip.

Free wifi is on between 7 am and 10 pm. Breakfast is expensive though, at 450Rs, as is the dinner at 750Rs. Which you have to wonder why you would, when there are so many cheap-eat options nearby. You can hit the nearby Perera and Sons a few shops down for breakfast. For lunch, I frequented Balajis a little further down the road which had rice and vegetarian curry buffet for only 100Rs. But in between are many other spots to satisfy your hunger. The walk to the lake and markets is a casual 10 minutes as well.

Overall, a decent guesthouse with a warm hospitable family. A nice change from more typical backpacker establishments for a few more rupees.

On my arrival in Kandy I was a little concerned that the tuk-tuk driver had not heard of this guesthouse. I became more concerned when I found it to be right on a main road.

However behind the un-assuming exterior was extremely good accommodation. Very cool and quiet.

Excellent food (some best curries in Sri Lanka) and attentive service. Rooms and public areas very clean and well maintained.

One low light was that Sevana arranged transport for me which didn't work out as planned.

Room Tip: Room 12 is at the front of the property overlooking the hustle & bustle of the main street - goo...

A good location, near the train- and busstation, and not too far from the city center. The rooms are very clean.
On the first floor they have a little terrace. The guesthouse is a bit away from the road, we didn't hear traffic noise. The breakfast is great, with fresh fruit and home made jam and marmelade. Very friendly staff.
