It was a great experience staying at Aronka Home Stay..The owner Jam went above and beyond to accomadate and welcome us..Great location - calm and relaxing, but at the same time close to the city center..but the real treasure is the owner..we can't thank him enough for this amazing stay, he really made us feel at home and exceeded all our expectations..we will definatelly go back!
Didn't like: The humidity in the room and bathroom (and the smell, therefore) - the bad shape of the bathroom, even if it should have been nice in the past - the staff was nice but didn't understand us, so we had to find information by ourself. By reading the other commentaries, I imagine we had bad luck for that point since the host was absent.
All in all: correct guesthouse for one night but nothing remarkable. Please adapt your information on Booking since it creates high expectations that Aronka cannot meet!
Liked: The situation: calm and green, far from the hectic of Kandy.
This hotel was in a nice quiet spot in the busyness of Kandy. We walked to the hotel from the train station, which is about 1.5km. Beware of the hills! Then we were able to spend a lovely day walking around the lake and seeing the sights. The guesthouse is very clean, light and airy. But be careful about leaving the doors open or the monkeys will come in! There was hot water in the bathroom but our shower head wouldn’t stay up, so we crouched underneath it. The hosts were very accommodating.
My wife and I stayed here on 26th November. We arrived at Kandy train station and phoned Jam 2 mins later his cousin arrived ant took us to Aronka Homestay. Every thing was perfect, clean and suitable. We met Jam the next morning and chatted with him for ages. He arranged a tour of Kandy for us and then organised our transfer to Habarana. Thank you Jam.
Would I recommend you to stay here? 100% yes!
We found a gem in Kandy :) We loved our 2 nights in Aronka. Jam was a great host, gave us great advices on what to do and where to eat and overall just took time to talk to us - we learned a lot on the Sri Lanka culture and laughed a lot.
The place is located up the hills (we walked from the city as we enjoyed walking along the lake), and there is a small river and a table outside - super relaxed atmosphere with the noise of birds :) the breakfast was great and the bed was super comfy ! Great shower as well !
Thank you Jam for making our stay so enjoyable, and we will be back !
We stayed here for 5 days while on our tour of Sri Lanka and we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to visit.
The Sri Lankan homestay is basically the same as a British Bed and Breakfast and this is one of the best. We absolutely loved the room, location, food, and especially chatting to the owner Jam.
The room has everything you need and the bathroom even has a jacuzzi!
The highlight for us was to watch all the wildlife from the balcony and enjoy the amazing views across towards the lake.
I highly recommend the breakfast especially the omelette which was cooked perfectly every day. The breakfast was more than enough to fill me up but I would love to see a sausage on the plate if I could. I just love the Sri Lankan chicken sausages!
Definitely give this place a chance and you won't regret it.
This homestay is situated just a short walk from Kandy lake and only a 15/20 minute walk from the city centre.
The room was nicely furnished and equipped with everything you need including AC. It was clean and comfortable even had a jacuzzi if that's your thing.
The waterfall outside the room was captivating and at times you can see huge Monitor Lizards and even Porcupines in the water.
The breakfast was excellent and one of the best omelettes I've ever had. Couldn't rate it higher!
The hotel owner was so friendly and went well out of his way to make you feel at home. We spent 5 nights there and on one evening we hung out with him and had a lovely time chatting all about our two countries. We also stayed through their new year celebrations and he cooked a fabulous meal for us all as his guest.
All in all, we loved this place and would come back in a shot.
