Laya Leisure Kukuleganga offers accommodation in villas. There are one, two, and three bedroomed villas. Meals are to be purchased separately. The setting within the resort is great although you have to cover some ground to get from one place to another. Check-in was prompt.
The air conditioned single bedroom villa we occupied had basic amenities. The bed was quite stiff. The bathroom was cramped. There was a spot of wet wall and a rotten door frame which didn't look too good. No mini bar. The villa also has a kitchen section with a full-sized refrigerator, oven with stove top and microwave oven, but cooking is not allowed. TV choice is adequate.
All three meals were offered as buffet with barbeque stations for Saturday dinner. Meal variety was good at lunch and dinner but breakfast didn't offer much. Food was just OK.
One great thing about this resort is the amount of activities it provides. It has a good swimming pool, tennis, volleyball, badminton and squash courts, air-rifle shooting, archery, billiard, a gym, a playground and many more. The resort also has a mini-mart.
A few kilometres uphill you can visit the Makeli ella waterfall which is beautiful. It has an observation deck so viewing is safe, but the steep descent to the deck might be difficult for physically-challenged persons.
Staff were courteous and helpful but not overtly friendly. Service was prompt.
Because they check each villa before finalizing the bill, make sure you leave aside at least 15 minutes for check out.
Because of its surrounding and relatively close proximity to Colombo (less than 100km), Laya Leisure is a great place to stay and engage in activities without spending much time en route. The resort is best for groups (e.g. company trips).
