They were more like small lobsters.Friendly family run restaurant providing wide range of tasty food. Mention cricket to the chef/owner and you are in for a good night. We had the king prawns washed down with a bottle of local beer and they have never tasted better!

This restaurant has really changed for the worse regarding service and quality of food. On previous visits (and there have been many over a number of years now) we received really good friendly service and good portions of well coooked delicious food. We were not so pleased when we visited 2 years ago but decided to give it another try this year, January 2013. We were going to order the King prawns but were told they were not available and the Jumbo prawns were much better. We have had these before and they are huge, cover the plate and are meaty and delicious so although they are much more expensive we though they are well worth the difference in price. The king prawn dishes were around 350SLR but the jumbo prawns were 1200SLR. When the food arrived the prawns were smaller than the normal prawns we have in UK and there was not very much food on the plate. Although it was a tasty dish it was over priced and very poor quality. We will definately never go there again and advise all considering visiting the Green Bamboo to not waste their time or money.

Even if you are on an All Inclusive Holiday, please give The Green Bamboo a try.
A day or so before, we booked a table and ordered the Prawns which we had read were definitely worth trying - on the night of our meal, we arrived to be told that due to the excessive rain that the Prawns would not have been very good, due to the silt etc in the river, so we were given Lobster instead! Amazing! Incredibly good food, cooked and served by a lovely couple!!!
And we were not even charged the extra for the Lobster - we highly recomend this low key, family run restaurant!!

The food and location is brilliant, Green Bamboo is a family run business. Thank you Buddi and family for a lovely time in Sri Lanka.

Really top-quality seafood in a low-key restaurant with friendly staff and a large flat-screen TV for cricket and Premier League football.
Everything is fresh so what's on offer depends on what has been caught that day but the Green Bamboo is renowned for the size of its prawns - they're huge.
For meat-lovers the pork and Australian steak is also top quality.
Beer-wise there's Lion, Lion Stout and Three Coins and a wide variety of spirits including, for the brave, the apple arrack.
The owners are friendly, down-to-earth and speak very good English - they also provide tours and transport into Colombo and the airport at much better rates than local hotels.
They'll also steer you in the best direction for local shops and amenities.
In sort this is a perfect alternative for anyone looking for a change from their hotel cuisine.
Highly recommended.
