We visited this Hindu temple in a combined visit with the nearby Bhuddist temple. The ferry ride there and back was an experience itself.

We left Jaffna at 6:30 AM to reach Kurikattuvan by 7:30 AM on a Friday. We parked the car in Kurrikattuvan and took the boat which offered free services to reach Nainatheivu Nagapooshani Amman temple. The public boat trip was a bit rough, (which was expected), but was worth the experience. We walked through to the Naga Vihara and came back to watch the Pooja at 12 pm. There were lots people in the Amman temple and had a lot of activities going on and they were interesting to watch. We took the boat back at 1 PM. My advice to everyone is to take water bottles and food as there are not many places where we can get good water. Went in to a local cafe and had something to eat and drink. When we wasedh the mouth, found the water was very salty from the sea.

Nainativu. Jaffna … Nagapoozani temple not to be missed.

Situated at the top at the top of Sri Lanka , Jaffna ,the city in the Northern province exhibits a dignified culture and traditional influences found nowhere else on the island.

Visiting Jaffna, one should miss out the Nagapoozani temple in Nainatiyu .A new road now …the Kyats causeway, you will see fish / prawn farms and tall palmarah trees on either side of the causeway . The sea here is shallow …it seem like a great place where the land blends into the sea. As we drove along the causeway from the mainland, we could see storks, cranes and water birds perched on each of the farms ...

We reached Nianathevvu in a private boat which cost us 2,000 Sri Lankan Rupees .One must be careful getting in and out crossing large stones … Entering the temple itself is a thing of beauty as the temple standouts majestically …One is awe-stuck by its entrance which is colorful with structures of two large elephants guarding the entrance.

This island is equally important religious place for Hindus and Buddhists .We started with the Buddhist shrine and were just in time for noon prayers which was followed by the the goddess being taken around the temple… We also had lunch here which was fantastic and well organized…

Visiting Nainativu was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Sri Lanka. The ferry ride was an extraordinary experience. This beautiful temple is one of the sakthi sthalams, where shakti's anklet dropped.
