We had a wander onto the harbor one morning as part of a walk we did. It was nice to see the colorful boats and speak with the fishermen who were landing their night catch. There is no charge and is nice to a nosey for half an hour or so. The fish market directly outside is small but worth a look too

Dirty and filthy moist with smell of diesel and fishes all around. If you want to experience local Srilankan culture do try this place. If you are too much hygiene freak avoid going to this place. Instead enjoy the Turtle ISland beach and the Hikkaduwa beach.

The busiest time of day is early morning as we found on a walk - lots of fishing boats bringing in the fresh catch of the day. Its a perfect instagram opportunity as the boats are so colorful and the place is a buzz of activity

A nice spot to spend an hour or so having a look at the colourful boats,if your early enough you can see the boats bringing in the fish. Some areas fish are laid out in the sun to dry and there is a lot of fishermen repairing nets. The area looking out to sea is a good place to watch local men trying to catch their dinner- -with quite a good success.

While on an early morning walk we thought a look around the harbour would be an experience. We were stopped at the entrance by security and told we had to buy tickets to go in. From the smell, the total chaos and from what little we saw we decided to give the experience a miss.
