My family of 4 have just returned from a fantastic stay at Madampe house. The house and gardens are fantastic but what really makes this place special is Jayantha and his team. Nothing is too much trouble and it was a pleasure to experience some of Sri Lanka with him. He also cooked us the best meals we have ever eaten! We hope to visit again.
Firstly the speed and ease of booking and the communication with Alistair in Scotland and Jayantha in Sri Lanka is first class. Both were there for queries and to give helpful tips on Sri Lanka.
We arrived at Madampe House having been picked up at the airport by arrangement with Jayantha. The villa is well designed with the downstairs living and eating space open on three sides which allows a cool breeze in throughout the day. You look out onto a lush green garden with pool. Upstairs are three comfortable double bedrooms with air con and ceiling fans. They all have bathrooms two of which are quirky but brilliant half in half open air.
We had arranged with Jayantha to have lunch when we arrived and here started a culinary master class. It was one of the best meals I have had, a term I would use often during our stay. Jayantha is such a fantastic cook we only ate out three times, one being an overnight stay on a trip and the other two to meet our daughters friends who ate with us twice and were suitably impressed.
To help Jayantha are the two girls Madu and Babi who have permanent unforced smiles the whole time and cannot do enough for you.We start the day with a breakfast consisting of a huge plate of various fresh fruits, toast, a Sri Lankan treat like egg hoppers or spicy rolls or deep fried patties and or any combination of egg you wish. This will easily see you through the day. If you eat in in the evening you will not find better food anywhere around. You are served a banquet of Sri Lankan dishes. You can have as spicey or not to your taste and you are asked each morning if you require a meal and if so what. I'm sure Jayantha would cook you anything you wished. My youngest loves prawns but not to much spice so if we had Devil Prawns Jayantha would give her some prawns in a bowl on there own.
The country is beautiful and the people very warm and friendly and will often engage you in conversation on the bus or in the street. We went on a two day overnight stop trip organised by Jayantha which packed in many stunning sites as well as the one of the National Parks. If we passed something of interest like a waterfall or young Water Buffalo beside the road the driver who was superb would just stop for photographs.
We were given loads of info and travel tips during our stay. As a result we travelled extensively by bus which is an experience and you can travel miles for a few pence. If you have the mind set that the bus driver does not want to have an accident you will enjoy the ride and get to your destination as quickly as possible. Tuk tuks are a good way of going short distances for under a pound for three and for little extra will squeeze in four.
There are three beaches within a bus ride although at this time of year you can play in the waves but you can only really swim at Unawatuna beach.Just before this beach is the Fort town of Galle which is worth a visit. There is a mask museum in Ambalangoda and a fantastic ice cream cafe plus the Tsunami museum on the way to Hikkaduwa which will bring tears to your eyes to see the tragedy the island folk suffered.
We had a fantastic time in Sri Lanka at Madampe House and truly Jayantha and the girls cannot do enough for you.The girls will even do your washing on request which was a god send on our return home after a long flight. I cannot recommend this place too highly. If your going to Sri Lanka and reading this review, book you will not be disappointed and your holiday will be enhanced by Jayantha and the girls.
We are a family of 6 who had a fortnight holiday vacation to Sri Lanka. We travelled around Sri Lanka and stayed in 5 different villas. We stayed at Madampe House for 6 days and this was by far our favourite place. The villa is modern, clean and beautifully furnished. The staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had breakfast every morning provided, which was different each day and plenty of it. We ate the majority of our evening meals at the villa as the food was amazing. The tuna/fish and salad was delicious but Jayantha's home made curries were the best. The staff made us drinks, smoothies, iced coffees, arranged transport, gave us advice on places to go and how to get there. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
We would highly recommend this villa to everyone.
Madampe House was a wonderful finale to our 2 week trip in Sri Lanka. The house is stunning- beautiful bedrooms with outdoor showers, lovely pool and Jayantha’s meals are just superb! We were looked after so well by Jayantha and the ladies - delicious breakfast every morning, juices by the pool and even our laundry done for us. The highlight was absolutely Jayantha ‘s cooking. We ate out the first night, but for the next 3 nights stayed ‘home’ and enjoyed his fantastic curries. He even catered for our teenagers request for plain food, and I loved watching him make the egg hoppers. We spent one day in Galle Fort, which is worth the trip, and a brief visit to Hikkaduwa beach, but really, the house is so gorgeous that we were happy to Chill by the pool and reflect on our amazing trip around this beautiful and fascinating country. Thank you Jayantha and Alistair. When can we move in permanently?!
The house is beautiful in such an ideallic location overlooking the lake teamiming with wildlife. We had plans to get out and about but In the end spent three days relaxing by the pool.
Eat foo we have had in 6 weeks of travelling through India/ Sri Lanka.
Never have we felt so looked after and spoilt. We will definitely return but for longer next time.
Beautifull , large and stylish house in a lakeside setting yet only 2 minutes from a great beach. Ideal location perfectly positioned midway between Galle and Hikkaduwa.
Breakfasts are something to look forward to each morning - superb.
Jayantha could not be more helpful and is a superb cook if you need his services.
Longing to go back !
We stayed for four nights in Madampe House, family of 4 including teenagers, and had a wonderfull time. Jayantha and his team made us feel very comfortable by arranging all kind of things like day trips, diners!, taxi, beers and nothing was asked to many. The atmosphere in the house is very relaxed with the great pool, beautiful view and garden, nice dining room and luxury bed- and (open) bathrooms.
After traveling around this was a welcome relaxing place to finish our holiday!!
Jayantha is a reliable and accurate person, communication was perfect.
