“Amazing Aditya”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

This luxury boutique hotel is a must stay if you are visiting Srilanka. Tucked away from the city rush whilst very close to Galle and Hikkaduwa Aditya is the perfect place for someone looking for a relaxing vacation.
The ambience was superb and the service for impeccable. There was good variety cuisine available and the food quality was excellent.
The hotel's travel desk also arranged for my whale watching trip from Mirissa at 5:00am and they also packed a picnic basket.

Overall the team left no stone unturned to make my stay pleasant and memorable.

PS - The private plunge pool in the bathroom is awesome !!

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing. Stay for a longer period to actually enjoy it. The Surya Suite is obviously t...

We had the warmest of welcomes at the Aditya Hotel, the first stop on our Sri Lankan honeymoon. Flower garlands, fresh passion fruit juice and what felt like a thousand Sri Lankan smiles greeted us on arrival. We were overwhelmed by the incredible room(s). Our own private plunge pool, double sink in a super spacious bathroom and an enormous bed that was still dwarfed by the cavernous room – freshly air conditioned from the heat of a beautiful Sri Lankan afternoon. The library of books and DVDs kept away any thoughts of potential boredom – not that we’d need them with the stunning pool and effectively private beach beckoning.

What struck us most: the serenity and the peace. Only the sound of the sea and the breeze just 50m from the balcony. The view from our hotel pool framed the beautiful Indian ocean and sandy beach. Peaceful, perfect temperature, picturesque and private.

We went out of the hotel a few times – the hotel ensured we had a safe and reliable tuk-tuk driver. We went on whale watching tours and also for cocktails and a number of dinners in the historic Galle Fort.

The staff were so friendly - every single person couldn’t do enough for us. The fantastic waiting guys (serving us a running total on cricket scores with our meals), the smiley barmen, the super helpful concierge, the room attendants who perfectly turn down the room each evening (and lit 20 tea lights whilst we were having dinner on the beach) and the gregarious life guard. The team in the spa were lovely, and we had a great couple’s massage. The food was excellent and the whole experience set off an amazing start to our honeymoon. Completely recommended.

Thank you for your wonderful review of Aditya! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us.

It’s great that you enjoyed the amenities and also ventured out to Galle and Mirissa (Whale watching), some of our many excursions on offer. The staff found it a pleasure to take care of you and, we are sure, immensely enjoyed keeping a tab of the scores! :)

We hope you come back soon and spend many, many anniversaries and special occasions at Aditya!

We were considering a few places for a getaway - Mauritius and Maldives were on the list. We picked Sri Lanka because my wife knew she'd like the food, but to be honest I expected that would come with a tradeoff in amenities.

I could not have been more wrong - this was one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in and almost definitely the nicest room. (We were in Martanda, overlooking the waves.)

In addition to to gorgeous spacious room and balcony, other great aspects of the stay were:
1) Breakfast - usually if it's included, it's meagre and only available at a set time (which we usually sleep through). At Aditya it was available any time, whether we came down at 8am or 1pm - and it was cooked to order and very filling.

2) My wife loved the warm and tranquil swimming pool

3) I loved the giant private balcony to watch the waves from and read on, and also the plunge pool for cooling off after a workout

4) Gym was reasonably equipped (treadmill, elliptical, cycling machine)

5) Dinners were very good - the chef at the hotel covers a lot of ground but we did not hit any sour notes. Prices were reasonable (compared to back home at least).

6) We took a few side trips; one down to Galle to see the fort (nothing exciting there) and twice up to Hikkaduwa to get a little more beach vibe (Aditya is on its own - Hikkaduwa has more going on).

A couple important notes, which we knew about: First, this is not a beach for swimming or snorkeling - the waves are too big and strong. If you like sitting and watching waves crash, as I do, it's paradise. Also, the plunge pool on the balcony is not meant to heat up like a normal jacuzzi - I have seen a few confused reviews about that.

Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful without ever being obtrusive.

A final telling note; they had the best selection of 'borrow and leave behind' books I've ever seen in a beach hotel. So, even in the little things, they really stand out.

Room Tip: Top floor looking out over the waves was wonderful!

Thank you for your review and for choosing Sri Lanka for your honeymoon! We are thrilled that you were not disappointed in any way with your decision!

We want guests at Aditya to relax and feel like they are not weighed down by any rules, and so are glad that you took advantage of the fact that you can have your meals whenever you wanted them.

We really love that you enjoyed spending time at the beach, relaxing on the balcony and visiting the neighborhood in Galle and Hikkaduwa,

We hope that you will come back to Sri Lanka which has so much to offer. The Aditya team looks forward to seeing you when you do.

Aditya is located down a narrow lane off the main drag between Galle and Hikkaduwa. The latter is no great shakes, a hot and dusty backpacker destination strung out along a busy highway. So if you haven't already visited, Galle is the place to go. And if you've already been to Galle, then you are probably staying at Aditya to soak up some rays and relax.
It's a good place to do both those things. Although you cannot swim, the beach is beautiful and watching the waves provides endless entertainment. The current Indonesian masseuse is excellent. The waiting staff are quite delightful and the chef is fantastic! So it was disappointing to find that the cookery demonstration which lasts for one morning costs $150 which we felt was a bit steep, even if you did get to eat the result. And the poolside area is cramped and cannot accommodate a full complement of guests resulting in a bit of unseemly early morning bagging of prime sun lounger spots.
Our bedroom faced the sea and was large but a bit lacking in atmosphere. The bathroom was open air which was fine until they set up an evening of "fumigation and fogging" when the whole of the outside public areas were copiously dosed with insecticide to keep the mozzies at bay. If they are doing this during your stay, please remove toothbrushes, face flannels and anything else with which you will have bodily contact from your bathroom before the toxic team get on the job.

Room Tip: The beach facing rooms are best.

Ayubowan!

Thank you for your lovely words about Aditya! We are so glad that you got some R&R when you were with us!

We are sorry that the cookery demonstration felt too expensive but really hope that you enjoyed it! It’s a pity that you didn’t always get the best spots to get some sun, but our team is always willing to arrange the sun beds on the beach as well though and in any spot you like.

We also regret the inconvenience caused to all our guests due to the fumigation. We do not have an alternative to the fumigation process as the mosquitoes need to be kept at bay in our tropical climate.

We hope these issues didn’t ruin your holiday and hope that you will return soon!

Warmest Regards,
Shami & the Aditya Team

The last of our hotels in Sri Lanka and certainly on a par with the others. The grounds are fantastic and the beach. Our sitting/ bedroom was great but neither of us were massively keen on the outside bathroom which we shared with a tree frog for our 4 nights but the service and care of the staff made up for that.
The food was good but the menu was too big.
We had good banter with all of the boys regards the T20 cricket. They took their defeat graciously!!

This is an amazing hotel. It only has, I think, 12 rooms, all luxury suites. We were there for 5 glorious nights.

Firstly lets get a couple of slight negatives out of the way, we had an excellent large Shanthi Suite with a large private patio area and plunge pool, but because the plunge pool doesn't get much sun, when we were there in March, its rather cold, so unfortunately we couldn't use it, we did try but not for long!! Also when we were there the sea was quite rough with dangerous rip-tides meaning it was red flagged, and the sand is quite sharp with a steep incline to the sea. So it's not really a beach you might romantically wander along the sea edge or lie out on. On the occasions when I did wander on to the beach I was the only person on it as far as I could see in either direction. OK lets park those small issues.

So,the hotel is Amazing. Very open plan, the restaurant area is open to the sea so you can hear it and just see it through the palm and coconut trees. Its all very smart and clean.

Our room was one of the Shanthi Suites, no sea view but that was made up for by the added extras!!!! Large bed with really cool ultraviolet blue ceiling lighting depicting the universe ! magical!!! One wall was a large window looking out onto a fish pond of carp, very large TV and DVD player, a small desk area, the other wall looked out onto the private patio with the large plunge pool. The bathroom was very large with its large outdoor shower, we used the shower when it rained and it was still ok to use. Must be one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in?

The food is excellent, you have a menu to choose from each evening with both Sri Lankan and European dishes, I had the Tuna twice, very good. Desserts are wonderful. It was a pleasure to sit down each evening and enjoy the three course meals, the staff are also excellent, very courteous, wanting to ensure you have exactly what you wanted, nothing is too much trouble for them. For example, the cutlery they use is very unusual, the handles are round and very hand made rustic looking in silver, but I found them difficult to hold, I just happened to mention this and suddenly my cutlery was replaced with a more traditional style, then, even more amazingly, each time I sat down, no matter who was waiting on us at the time, my cutlery was magically changed for me, without me saying a thing, that's good service for you. Breakfast was also a joy, lots of fruit, bread and pastry basket, a choice from the menu of various egg dishes, pancakes etc etc etc etc!!!!!!

Before I forget, a little gem..........in the bathroom there is a little glass pot with a leaf on it, the contents of which all the ladies, and some men!!, were raving about. It's basically a citronella balm skin potion lotion ?!, my wife though it was wonderful, I meant to ask if I could buy some when we left but forgot, dooh!!! missed brownie points!!

The pool was very clean, welcoming and warm with a number of sun beds around it. The lad that looks after the pool and sunbeds will even take some of the beds out onto the beach under some trees for you if you ask him. Randomly mid afternoon ish there may be a flurry of activity and the staff will bring out either an afternoon tea, or lime jelly's or something else, without anyone asking and at no charge, very cool.

The spa is one very large room with an amazing ceiling/roof. I had a back and neck massage and was very well looked after, with a cup of best Sri Lankan tea to follow. Because it only has one room its best to book in advance so you are not disappointed.

The hotel is located about 4 miles north of Galle and was actually hit by the tsunami back in 2004 when it was being built. I understand the guys building the hotel survived by climbing up onto the 1st floor concrete flooring and watched the water rise up to within 3 feet of where they were standing!!!! There are lots of buildings within the area that did not survive as well and act as a stark reminder of how badly the area was hit, but its amazing how well the people of Sri Lanka have recovered and a great testament to their versatility and resourcefulness, very impressive.

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms are different in one way or another, the Shanthi Suites are very large but h...

Ayubowan!

Thank you for such a great review. Such a joy to read!

Firstly, we regret that you were not able to enjoy the plunge pool. The beach has been seeing its share of the effects of climate change and it is sad that you did not have the idyllic beach during your stay with us. We hope sleeping under the stars made up for this!

The kitchen and restaurant staff found it a treat to have you with us at meals. Chef and his team appreciate your kind praise for the food and service.

We know that relaxing is hard work and we try to fuel your relaxation activities with afternoon treats and en suite spa services! :)

We consider ourselves lucky to have come out of the tsunami so well. And hope that the area, so well known for its warm hospitality, thrives further. We trust that you will be back and we will keep some of that lotion ready for you to take home then!

Warmest Regards,
Shami & the Aditya Team

We completed our tour of Sri Lanka at The Aditya staying for four nights. We had been recommended to the hotel by Laura at Audley Travel and we had one of the Sagara Suites which have sea views. The suite was unbelievably impressive. Luxurious, comfortable, with a veranda with a day bed, plunge pool, and the largest outdoor bathroom I have ever seen ( that was a novel experience!). There were tea and coffee making facilities so my first cuppa of the day was on the veranda looking out to sea watching the fishing boats race back with their catch. Wifi was available throughout the hotel. The room was cleaned everyday to a high standard and the lads worked very hard and couldn't do enough for you. The plunge pool was cold but isn't that the idea having seen a previous review?
Breakfast was a feast. The restaurant was open and spacious and looked over the garden and out onto the beach. The pool was a nice size with comfortable sun loungers.
The menu at the hotel was very varied and the food was very good and the chef and his staff did a fantastic job. We had over the days both lunch and dinner and the food was great. The staff in the restaurant and bar were great. Nothing was to much trouble and there friendliness was refreshing and made for a welcoming stay. Reception was very efficient and it's just the little things like organising tuk-tuks and allowing you to use their computers to check in online and print out boarding cards just made the process stress free. When we have these trips the last hotel is always about luxury and R&R. This hotel did not disappoint it in fact exceeded already high expectations. We would like to thank all the staff at the hotel for making our stay absolutely fabulous the memories will live long.
