“Best homemade meals in town”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

We stayed in Hikkaduwa for two weeks and this restaurant was the highlight of our stay! We tried other restaurants, but we just kept coming back to this one. They serve typical Sri Lankan meals : homemade string hoppers with dhal curry and coconut sambal for breakfast / rice with 6-8 different curries for supper, all slow cooked in clay pots on a wood fire. There will be more delicious food on your plate than you can possibly eat and prices are cheap. All this while being served by the most welcoming hosts. You just have to let them know in advance when you want to eat with them so they can plan ahead. Your Sri Lankan experience would not be complete without a meal at the Bookworm Library restaurant!

“Delicious Rice & Curry”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

A lovely family who owns Bookworm makes the best rice & curry in Hikkaduwa. We also got to go to the kitchen to help and see these wonderful sisters make some magic in their clay pots. The food tastes amazing and the wonderful ladies also know the health benefits of the Sri Lankan spices. There is also a good selection of books found in the library, fruits and juices. The brother of the family, Gamini, offers also surfboard repair.

A Finnish blog text of mine of the wonderful rice & curry can be found here: http://www.onnenrumpu.fi/2014/01/07/supersaarelaista-kuningasruokaa/

“Best fresh Sri Lankan curry!!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

The home made curry is so tasty and fresh! Just order in advance because the friendly lady cooks only the ordered food plus 2 portions extra! So you know the food is really fresh! And amazingly tasty! Just go there and order the curry and you won't complain! Good food for a good price! :-)

“Best Curry in Hikkaduwa!!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2014 via mobile

My sister and I have eaten here many times since December 2013 and this is by far the best curry and rice in hikkaduwa. This is a small family run business and they are so friendly and caring and you can tell the food is cooked with love. They make all their own curries from scratch and their own coconut milk also. They use no oil, apart from their own coconut oil. They serve 6 curries, sometimes 7 and for 350 rupees each. Amazing value for money that sometimes you can't even finish the meal. Amazing food, amazing people. Highly recommend. TIP- it is better to book as they only make enough food for those who book.
