Great Coral reef lots of fish and many varieties of them all. If you wanna snorkel a bit more you need to go to the huge rocks near by you need to hire a Boat for that because its safe. If you hiring a boat it will cost you approx 2000 rupees for locals and for foreign travelers it will costs u more make sure you ask for a good price always. I saw 04 Green turtles near the shore cuz they used to the beach people around and they will ask you "Would you like to feed the turtles" if you love to you can feed them but note well that the beach people will ask for money. And you need to be careful from Sea pencils as well you have a lot of near the rocks. Very poisonous.

to get to the coral, you had to hire a boat, £25 for an hour minimum. needless to say many boats remained moored, greedy.

It is a reef in recovery but we did see some corals, fish and a large green turtle. The Glass bottom boat trip is ok but should really only be taken if you do not snorkle. Snorkling is always a better way to see a reef and causes less damage to the feer if done without touching the corals.
We did go on the glass bottom boat as we have small kids and thought that they would be able to see the reef. They did see some fish and some corals but this is nothing like other coral reefs I have been to in Belize and the caribean.

Warning: Do make sure that you book the glass bottom boat via the National Parks Booth and not via scammers along the beach or just before the National Parks Booth next to Coral Sands Hotel. It is a fixed price of 1750 LKR vs. upto 7000 LKR from scammers and the money goes to the national park. Even our hotel driver tried to scam us into paying more. Also I suggest that you have a talk with the National Parks people as they will tell a bit about the reef and the state of the recovery and maybe even go with you on the boat as guides if you ask politely.

If you want to go with a glass botom boat there are lots of guys trying to get you in there boat for way to much.

If you go off the beach you are on the road, there is a house that belongs to the sanctuary, if you get your tickets there it's much cheaper and you get a proffesional.

We didn't really know what to expect because of the bad and the good reviews. The weather was good and first we went for a swim, we allready saw lots of fish. After that we got onboard of the boat.

The guide new a lot about the coral and the different kind of wild life. He showed us the differences between life and dead coral. He was really skilled in turning off and on his engine, so that he wouldn't harm the coral or scare away the fish.

In the beginning I was sceptic, the coral wasn't as beautiful as I've seen in other places. And then it started to rain really bad. He asked if we wanted to go back or stay on the boat. We stayed and it payed of. He knew where all the big turtles were and after a couple of minuts he found a adult turle swimming under our boat.

He showed us around for over an half hour.
