“Too bad the museum is still not open”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

The statue, built by Japanese is really impressive. There is a museum nearby but that will probably be opened in April 2014. There is a lack of money, so all we saw were empty rooms. (we were allowed to take a look by a guardsman)

“Nice passing by stop”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

Really interesting how the Japanese sponsored this monument in 2005 before it too suffered devastation. It is a touching reminder, like with the rest of the Tsunami affected areas such as Banda Aceh, Indonesia

“Beautiful memorial to 50,000 lives lost”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

This statue that was donated by the Japanese following the devastation of the 2004 Tsumani where 50,000 people lost their lives. Truly a stunning memorial and very moving. On the Galle Road, on the beach side of the road you see the memorial plaques with information on the lives lost and the train where 1,2000 people lost their lives in 2004
