My husband and I travelled with my parents and two children ages 3 and 2. All of us said the villa was the high light of our holiday. There is honestly not one thing we would change.

The photos do not do the property justice. The four bedrooms are all double beds with en suite, with two fantastic dining areas one in the home and one under shelter in the garden. The private pool was a perfect addition to our holiday, with our kids swimming in it everyday.

The grounds are full of tropical fruits and veg from cashew nuts, avocado, mangos, jack fruits and too many more to mention. It was a pleasure to kick back and watch the wildlife going about their day and keep a sharp eye on the kids.

A friendly tuk tuk driver took us to the town when ever we needed, often showing us the sights as we went, and giving us information when needed. Askanka the property manager also could not have been more helpful, every morning he gave us information and suggestions to do for the day. We took advantage of the cook, who was fantastic, catering for us all, down the the vegetarian member of the party to the children's food preferences.

Note for families with toddlers instead of babies. The cot is more suitable for smaller children, with this in mind our son was not complaining, he definitely enjoyed being in a double four poster bed!

During our week we visited a turtle farm, rode an elephant, took a boat ride up the river, went to a spice farm, visited a moon stone factory, went to the beach and much more!

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in this fantastic home, We have already spoken about returning.

Villa Kos
September 2013

I travelled with my wife, 2 year old son, and 74 year old mother.
We were collected from the airport and travelled south which took several hours, some of which was getting through the Colombo traffic.
However, this month a new expressway opens which will make things much quicker and easier.

We arrived at night time and chose which rooms to adopt for the 2 week stay.Villa Kos is all one level which was great for my son and mother.
In the morning we awoke to see the full splendour of the garden.
We had breakfast which is served at the pool dining area, as is all meals - weather permitting. It is covered but when it rains it is better to eat on the Villa veranda as this is just easier to deliver the food and yourself without getting wet. However, umbrellas are always on hand.

We had varied weather over 2 weeks which was a daily mix of showers and sunshine. Throughout though, the temperature and humidity was even. It never got cold and was a times very humid.
We took these occasions to use the AC and fans provided by the Villa provisions.
The upside of the off and on sunshine was that it promoted us to take more daily excursions otherwise it would have been next to impossible to tear me away from the poolside.
I'm so glad we did. We got to see some really wonderful places which started to help me appreciate just why all my friends that have been to Sri Lanka are so in love with the place.
We didn't travel as far and wide as we would have liked to because my son gets car sick. Therefore our trip distance was limited to 1.5 hours maximum. However, there is plenty to do and see in that radius.

We went on a boat trip which included having our feet scrubbed of dead skin by fish in a floating nursery,
Saw the moonstone mine and spent a small fortune in the accompanying jewellery shop (good stuff though)
Got taken around a spice garden by a Sri Lankan Dr of natural medicine (I never knew natural products where so expensive - no wonder the chemical industry does so well)
And saw sea turtles which I got to hold a few.
That was all just one day!

We also saw:
Carnival procession in Hakkaduwa (very colourful)
Galle Fort (marvellous). Had tea in the Amangalla Hotel.
Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel (By Geoffrey Bawa - Architect). Had another cup of tea and a piece of cake.
Spent an afternoon on Unawatuna beach (Great if you like your feet in the sand while eating sort of place. We went at the weekend and so was vibrant with local people too)
Bevis Bawa house and garden named Brief (interesting book in the Villa on the Bawa Family)
Bentota Beach Resort Hotel (another Geoffrey Bawa design).

We didn't see:
Kandy (too much time in car and likely an overnight stay required)
The Geoffrey Bawa hotel in Dambulla (would have been my place to stay had we gone to see Kandy)
Geoffrey Bawa's house and garden. (Just ran out of time).

For note: My wife and I are Architects, so the Bawa brothers are interesting to us. Make sense now?
We will definitely come back to Sri Lanka and get the missed items next time.

Despite all of the marvellous things above, the outstanding aspect that made our holiday special was the service and attention delivered by the Villa staff.
The garden was immaculate at all times - Thank you Gamani (the man never stops pruning)
The food was out of this world! Thank you Ramani (she works so hard and never stops smiling). We are Sri Lankan cuisine addicts now.
Udesh proved to be a caring and great second pair of hands to cover the management of the villa when required...

But our biggest thanks goes to Asanka who was our Villa manager, tour guide, chauffer, child minder and friend throughout the 2 weeks.
He took us to other little places that we wouldn't have found ourselves and was so very taken in by my son who will very much miss his new found friend.

We were all unanimous in our view that our stay at Villa Kos and experience of Sri Lanka ranks in the top holidays we have had in our life time. Collectively we have been to many countries and stayed in many places. However, we have never returned to a place twice. This time we will certainly be returning and are already planning our return visit.

“A wonderful place in a beautiful part of Sri lanka.”

A beautiful colonial style villa situated in a beautiful part of Sri lanka. The villa itself had four double rooms en suite which very clean and well maintained. The same applies for the pool as it was cleaned every morning.
There was also a kitchen area to make tea and keep food and drinks. The staff were very helpful and the villa has an amazing chef. I strongly recommend you have some of the local food at the villa. It was also very easy to organise meals, all we had to do is tell Asanka a few hours prior if we going to have dinner or lunch at the villa. The villa is also only about ten minutes from the local town of Hikkaduwa which also has many good restaurants.
The surrounding garden is what makes the villa such a great place relax. It is really is a very beautiful place to stay at.

We stayed a full week at home with our two children. The place is beautiful and everyone looks after you really well. It is essential to have meals in the house to taste the specialties. Asan is adorable and nothing can happen to you in his hands.
A week of peace, tranquility and happiness!
