This Turtle Farm is nice to see, the people how work there will gladly show you around the place and tell you about their work. Very interesting and good to learn.
This is also a NGO project, so give them a few rs for it.

we were initially surprised at the SLK500 entrance fee but once we saw the good work being done we were very happy to have contributed. There were eggs hatching and we were able to take them out of the sand and place in the tanks. The guide who took us around was well informed and we found it to be very educational and an exellent conservation project. EK Amarasena Fernendo near the saw mill Welipara

Well, the story goes that the owner lost his family and the hatchery in the Tsunami. I hope that isn't all true but many people did die here. Unfortunately, after multiple visits and many rupees to enter and for donation (turtle food?) I do feel like the place is a scam. Nothing changes. He has the same "rescued" turtles and just as many baby turtles as every other day. I am very unsure as to how legit these places are.

OK it initially seems like a turtle petting zoo BUT there is a method to the madness and they claim to have returned over 10,000 turtles to the wild based on our donations and entry fees. That seems a job well done, right? You might like to see it done differently BUT they are trying and they should be applauded for it. If you have kids its a winner, a real winner. On the strength of this visit we went to another sanctuary further north (40 Mins) and this was a bigger version of the same again worth a visit.

Small hatchery not far from the beach. The staff is very knowledgable and the turtles are insanely adorable.
