Nice to see the turtles and the eggs BUT..... 15 minute visit, in and out, they want the donations, not very nice conditions, dirty water, I would try and find a more professional establishment elsewhere on the island, rather than a shack on the beach.

Entrance is 500 rupees and well worth it. You see some incredible species of turtles and see how they are cared for. the family owner Santha loves his turtles and during the Tsunami he went back to save them after making sure that his family ere not in danger. Many tourists donate to this good cause to help safeguard and look after the turtles. This hatchery was in Welipara, Hiddarura

The one we went to was in Galle, I understand there is one in Hikkaduwa, but it was nice and the people seem to care, and it is only 400 rupees (€2.50)

The operator is saving turtle eggs from being sold as food, hatching them, and releasing them. He also provides hospice & hospital care to older/injured turtles. Children are able to see turtles up close, and to see baby turtles swimming in tanks. Definitely worth supporting.

I am from India. Have seen plenty of turtle hatchery. Max 30 min in and out. Can visit if you have time to kill. They are more keen on additional donation.
