Pelwehera Village Resort
Ranked #12 of 16 Hotels in Dambulla
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Good room. Quite spacious rooms, surrounded by garden, trees, pool. The hotel is away from the town and has the flavour of village. Different birds visit the hotel garden. Washroom is modern and convinient. Other modern amenities include a bedside control of all lights, fan and AC. My only regret is that the hotel does not provide tea and coffe making facilities in the room.

We stayed just one night at this Resort and it truly was a respite after the long travel. The rooms are Air-Conditioned, large with comfortable beds and large bathroom with hot water. The Rooms however lack an electric Kettle/Coffee Maker, which is a minor Inconvenience. Every Room has a lovely Sit-out overlooking the Pool area and garden, which is a nice way to relax in the evening. We were travelling with my 3 year old daughter and she absolutely loved this place ! The Dining area is an open space, well laid out. The Staff is very helpful and obliging, considering the fact that we are Vegetarians and the Chef whipped up a very nice Dinner specially for us. This hotel is closer to Sigiriya, which is a blessing, because we were able to visit the Lion Rock early in the Morning, avoiding the Blistering Heat. Overall a Comfortable and Semi-Rustic Hotel away from the bustle.

The pool was good enough for our kids (all 9 in the group) to enjoy for a few hours, while the adults chatted and drank very pokey gin and tonics. There weren't enough recliners though, for the size of the hotel, and we had to go and find towels. Small inconvenience though...

The buffet was very good and the service pleasant and attentive. Lots of Western alternatives to the Sri Lankan rice and curry. The dining room space was lovely and open. Each bedroom had a balcony area looking out onto the lush gardens, with table and two chairs.

Very pleasant.

We spent in this hotel one night. It was ordered by our local guide.

The price is pretty reasonable quality and level, but even so it is still a few things to improve. Attention deserves particular attention bathroom. Bathroom is big but only with a shower, which is a problem with pressure in the water pipe. Showering looks more like rinsing the sink. Also, the outflow is either small or clogged.

The room was basic but clean and quite pleasant. Surprisingly, the entrance wall is whole from glass, against which the terrace, through which passes into the other rooms. In room you can find TV, but there are only 2 channels (in local language).

We had a better experience at the restaurant - the buffet dinner and breakfast spread was quite decent, and the staff were friendly.

Hotel offers pool also. Pool is quiet small but enough for refreshing.

At the end I can state that for travellers is this hotel good for one-two night stay and rest a little bit during visiting nearby attractions (Dumballa, Sigiriya Rock, national park)

We stayed in this resort because it was booked by our agent. On first glance it looked o.k. with a nice welcome and soft drink.
Our room was on the first floor - it was not a bad size but the fittings were old and badly worn. The bathroom was awful with a window that would not shut (thereby letting all the mosqitoes in), broken fitments and no hot water. The TV had only two channels (in Indian) and even these suffered from bad reception.
We did complain at the desk but nothing was done about this at all.
We eat in the buffet restaurant and bitterly regretted it. The food was cold and badly cooked. The choice was poor and the staff overworked. I complained about the filthy tablecloth and it was changed begrudgingly.
Breakfast was even worse with the choice being cold everything except for the man who did the eggs who made us an omlette. The coffee was apaling as was the orange juice.
Again, no hot water for the shower.
I felt so angry I filled in the comments form in the room. I took it to reception and explained everything to them but again, no comment.
We feel the management of this place need to spend some time on training and checking the rooms before guests arrive.
All in all, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Don't Go.

Stayed here for the first 2 nights of our vacation in Sri Lanka. Pretty convenient location to Sigiriya (about 15 mins drive) and is about 1 - 1.5 hours drive to Polonnaruwa. The room was huge though basic, nothing much to shout about in my opinion. I liked that the hotel was quiet as it was tucked away from the main road. Breakfast was decent - there was a mix of both American-style breakfast food and local curries. We didn't try the dinner buffet at the resort, would recommend driving to the nearby town for cheap and delicious local food instead.

This hotel was our favourite hotel during our stay. We toured Sri lanka for 9 days and stayed in 5 different 3 star hotels. Our room was basic but clean yes there are mosquitoes but the hotel is set in a garden and you will have to fight mosquitoes pretty much anywhere you go in Si Lanka anyway.
, We enjoyed taking our meals with a view onto the luscious gardens (the restaurant is 'open') the food was varied with a choice of continental and asian food.
Staff were very friendly, all in all it is a great base for visiting Sigirya (15 min drive) and the Ancient cities
