Amazingly beautiful property beside the Kandalama lake... I stayed with my family for 02 nights last week and there is something so tranquil and peaceful about this hotel that will surely make you want to go back there over and over again... My family and friends prefer this hotel to any other in the area as it has a charm that is incomparable with any other. They visit Amaya lake at least twice a year and now I understand why... With gorgeous landscaped grounds that seems never ending to the warm and friendly staff this is an ideal property for a memorable and relaxing family or friends get away. Special mention has to be made about how caring and helpful the staff was especially in the dining and front office area. There is a large variety of food with authentic Sri Lankan to international and fushion food. You can make special requests if you like anything made other than whats on the buffet / menu and the chef was very helpful in obliging.
The new luxury rooms are amazing with modern state of the art comforts. Its very spaciously designed with a large bathroom and a jacuzzi. Even the older chalets have been refurbished and has its own charm and is ideal for a group stay. And there is the fun experience of the Buggy Cart ride that will take you to and from your room to the main area.
The service which was flawless, location and atmosphere just beyond words. If you want to experience a piece of heaven on earth this is the place to visit... Simply amazing!

Room Tip: All the rooms have it's own charm. From the chalets to the newer luxury rooms. There are all wel...

Spent 2 nights at the beautiful Amaya Lake Hotel at the end of November. The hotel and it's surroundings are gorgeous, and it looks like a small village with a beautiful, beautiful lake, with trees inside. The rooms are very spacious, pampering and well kept, and the stuff is so helpful and extremely nice.
If you are visiting the area, this is, without a doubt, the place to be.

This hotel is situated in a beautiful forest area adjacent to a nice lake. cottages are spread out in among a vast area each a single storied structure with all the comforts of a 5 star hotel. The restaurant is very spacious serving delicious food of different varieties. it has a large swimming pool. The area of the forest attached to this is about 40 acres

Room Tip: Choose a cottage nearer the reception

The Amaya Lake was not very busy when we were there (Dec. 2013) and we had a great time to relax from our daily tours. The area is big and the lake in front of the hotel very calm. However, not ideal for swimming as it looks still al little wild. The bar and the restaurant and excellent and the service is very attentive and nice. Our little bungalow was very charming but make sure we have an anti-mostique liquid with you, not to get eaten by night.

Room Tip: Get an anti-mosquito liquid

We stayed in Amaya Lake for three nights. The hotel is on the lake and is beautiful to wake up too. The staff are exceptionally friendly! They made are stay enjoyable, specially all the restaurant staff. The food was great too, we had a wide selection of food and great for vegetarians. However, we did have a few problems. There was a group of six of us. We checked in on the first day and were taken to our rooms. They were quite far so we went in a buggy. The rooms were very dull and I didn't like them. In my room The bathroom lights were not working, the A/C was leaking, there were no towels and no hot water! There were lots of insects and lizards which is understandable as we were by the lake and it had rained however I found a lizard on my pillow and lizard droppings on the floor and on the bed post questioning when they had cleaned the rooms. We complained and were moved a few rooms down. Due to all the problems the receptionist that night said we will move you to different rooms tomorrow but tonight they are all occupied. We did not sleep much that night thinking something is going to crawl into our bed. The next day we were moved to the luxury suites and they were absolutely awesome!!! We had a massive room with a lovely bathroom which had a bath too. This room was SO much better I was shocked I was in the same hotel. We were okay for the next two nights and enjoyed our new room. My aunt and uncle who had been moved next to us however had problems. Their A/C was not working, they found a rat one night and were therefore moved to another room again. They slept in three different rooms the three nights. I really enjoyed my last two nights there and the staff are wonderful. However due to all the hassle we had I would not recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Go for the luxury suites if you can! Do not go for rooms 205 to 209!!!

Was a good break. Liked everything except the way the local singers/musicians are treated - almost like beggars on the streets. The authority should show a bit more respect to these traditional artists. They should not be made to sit on the stairs or next to porch on the floor.
