“Amaya Lake is a nice place”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Amaya Lake is a place you will like to come back to. We stayed there 2 nights on a roundtrip Sri Lanka. If you are near Dambulla take a stay in Amaya Lake, The food breakfast and dinner is very good. The evening dance show is near professional.

Visited this awesome hotel over the long weekend, 23rd to 25th February.

The Welcome: Fantastic! Lit the oil lamp and was garlanded at arrival. I especially liked the Sri Lankan folk drummers playing while we alighted from the vehicle. Nice touch. Delightful welcome by Priyanthi and her front office team.

The hotel : Immaculate! Clean and a large expanse of well maintained estate with a stunning pool.

The rooms : Clean! We checked in to the luxury rooms, well appointed and spacious. The Jacuzzi was superb. Enjoyed the baths, the rain shower and changing lights!!

The food : The best "village style food" we have had in a very long time. The chef's went out of the way to make delightful and mouth watering array of dishes to suit our palette. The buffet's had a large choice of local as well as international food, different theme nights added to the atmosphere.

The service : I read on TripAdvisor some comments about the service hence was particularly interested in this area. I was travelling with family (9 pax in total with 3 kids). The service staff from the front office to F&B and housekeeping were excellent. They were pro-active to our needs although the hotel was very busy and full house! This is an area which defines the culture of the hotel and they have delivered par excellence.

The management : The GM was always visible and driving the team. He was interacting with clients which was good to see and this personal can do attitude does filter in to the team as a whole.

Overall experience : Five star! Ticked all the boxes from cleanliness to service to Food and Beverage. The kids were in tears when we checked out.......We will come back!!

Room Tip: If you book a trip to the Minneriya National Park, don't take the short cut route, the road is q...

As lovers of nature we were pleasently surprised by the beautiful location on arrival.Welcome staff were very good & ensured that we were comfortable in all respect. The cottages were neat & clean .However living room sofa linens were not clean & was brought to the notice of the staff.
The food was good with a large spread .What i liked most was the location amidst greenary & the overlooking lake . All in all it was very enjoyable stay.

Dear bhayya,

Ayubowan!
Wow! Thank you for your positive and thorough review about your stay with us! I will be sure to relay your comments to our staff. Apologies on the conditions of the linen. This will be escalated immediately to the relevant department head. We couldn't agree more with the setting of the hotel. It truly is lovely. Amaya Lake Hotel is located on the shores of the beautiful Kandalama Lake about 9km from Dambulla. The first thing that strikes you is how peaceful and close to nature you are here as you walk down small winding paths to the chalets. When we arrived we walked straight down to the edge of the lake and were astonished by the scenery and wildlife, particularly the multitude of birds. We stayed in one of the individual chalets which was very clean, comfortable and spacious with all the mod cons you'd want. We used the hotel as a base to visit Sigiriya (about 30 mins away) and Anuradhapura (about 90 mins away). Overall a peaceful place with good service. Breakfasts were good but evening buffet was ok (it's worth trying the buffet and the spa over at the Heritance across the lake). My only gripe was price of taxis - we paid 10,000 Rs for a trip from Colombo to Dambulla (around four to five hours) and the hotel charged us 4,000 Rs for a 15 min trip to the other side of the lake so would recommend arranging your own driver/ transport.
