“Fantastic place and great food...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

My wife and I spent four nights here. It is located in a very quiet, peaceful area about 2km outside the town. It is very conveniently located for both the Golden Temple and the Cave Temple. The hosts are extremely friendly and their young daughter is a delight. And then there is the food, which is delicious and comes in very generous portions. My wife and I have been travelling in Asia for seventeen months and this is among the best food we have eaten in that time. We would not hesitate to return here.

We've got this adres by a tuk tuk driver. We didn't know where to go in Dambulla, although he gets a fee, we still paid just 2000 per night which we found a good price! Kumara is very friendly and helpfull. And the food was very good! Very close to the caves. Lovely garden with the monkeys and fireflies at night. Also quietly situated just a little off the mainroad. Best place to stay in Dambulla, check out the website of the Golden Rainbow Inn.

Nice and quiet place to stay in Dambulla. It is in the nature and you can see monkeys all around. Rooms are clean and food is also excellent. Familly is very kind. Golden and Rock temple is very near this accomodation.

There are just 2 rooms at this homestay and they come either with a/c or just fan - fan only was fine for us. The rooms are clean with a soft but comfortable mattress, mosquito nets (although rooms are well mosquito-proofed) and hot shower. Note that this a homestay so you won't get fancy hotel services whilst only paying 1600rs a night!

Meals were tasty and plentiful and the family are friendly and helpful. The location was great for us being a short walk from the cave temples in a lovely quiet area. We arranged a return tuk tuk to sigirya for 1700rs. Kumar will ask you what you want to pay for the room and meals and then you can agree on a price. It's a different way of doing it but it works well enough.

Would definitely recommend this place, much nicer experience than the slightly more expensive hotels we stayed in in Kandy.

We are a couple with one 3 and half year old child who spent 5 nights in Rainbow Inn. The majority of people spend there mostly one or two nights. This can say something about our adaptability and the kind of travellers we are.

The family is absolutely nice and lovely. They also have a young daughter our's kid age and they also playied a lot together. The taxi driver who work with Kumara (we employed him for a whole week) is a very very nice and humble person and a very good driver. We recommend him.

Breakfast was simple but ok, milk, cofee or tea, toasted bread, butter, jam and fruit.

As for the room.

We took the room upstairs with airco. The airco is only in one room and doesn't reach the rest of the apt, so we had to sleep in one bed with our child. The mattress is everything but orthopedic....
In the whole apt there were no wardrobe-cases where to store our things.
In the bathroom, the shower goes directly on the floor and is next to the toilet. Also the lavabo flushed directly in a whole on the floor. The bathroom door didn't have any handle to close it.

The airco and hot water worked properly.

I don't mean to be negative in writing this review because Kumara is a Sri-Lankan guy who has estabilished his business and is trying to make it grow. Surely he deserves the support from tourists but on the other end, also tourists, above all those with kids like us, should have a better/fairer idea of the place. I am writing this above all for them.

For those who travel on a budget this might be a very good solution. Surely the human contact was very nice and surely, if you stay there, you help a local family. Those with kids can just contact me if they need more explanantions.

Room Tip: In this place you can go very close to a true Sri-Lankan lodging experience but you have also to be...

Got picked up by the owner after stepping off the bus from kandy. Offered us a very good price and did not charge for the ride to his hotel. Offered good advice on getting buses where we wanted to save money rather than take tuk tuk transport. Excellent home made food, great portions and well worth the stay alone.

Also gave us a good guest house recommendation for our onward journey where we are now staying!

Lovely honest people, and a very good value room for a couple of nights.
