I stayed in Kandalama hotel from 7 to 11 Nov 2009. First two days were on my own and wanted to enjoy the surrounding natural beauties, the lake, the hills, the green fields and the huge hotel. Such a serene place. The hotel is not an ordinary hotel, the moment you are received, immediately you start feeling important. The way the staff welcome you and treat you, all your tiredness leave immediately. Throughout my stay I felt someone special. When our workshop started, then we were confined in the conference room. They were too cold and at times the cooling system had to be turned off. I should have taken a shawl with me.
The bathrooms are very classy. Very open and mixes with nature. I had the feeling that I was taking shower in a spring. The vast green bush, the hanging leaves outside the bathroom worked as curtain. The eco friendly hotel kept many of its original rocks as it is inside and outside the building.
The hotel is very clean, neat and tidy. Lots of tourists were coming and going but the hotel always remained very clean.
The food was also good and lots of varieties of fruits, vegetables and meat products were present on the table. The cheerful and smiling staff made always our stay very pleasant.

We spent two nights in this hotel, on our Sri Lanka tour. This is a fantastic hotel and I have never seen anything like this. It looks like it is embedded in the hill and it is covered with trees. You can hang out with monkeys, they walk free all around and sometimes come to visit you in your room :) They also organize an elephant back ride and bird watching.
If you plan a trip to Sri Lanka, do not miss this! It is close to Sigiriya and Polunarawa also.

We stayed in some amazing hotels in Sri Lanka. This was the one that took our breath away. Its position, staff, food and the rooms are all fabulous. Value for money it is not, its a hotel in Sri Lanka with Western prices - this wasn't a problem for us but for some folks it may be.

Best moments: Monkeys on the Balcony. Swimming in the beautiful infinity pool. The dinners.

We were picked up at the airport by a hotel driver and delivered right to the front desk - which is outside due to the unique design of the hotel. They had no problem giving us an early check-in - which is key at 9 AM after an overnight flight. When we awoke at 2 pm, we found that the 6 Senses Spa upstairs had a special for a couples' package - the perfect way to sooth away jet lag. We loved this place from start to finish! The food was great - staff was friendly and helpful - gift shop stocked with local handicrafts. The front desk set us up on several daily excursions to close by must-sees - with informed guides. You can't beat the scenery. We even got to help bathe the hotel elephant in the lake! If you are looking for a unique experience in beautiful surroundings - this is the place for you.

My sister and I spent a night at the Heritance. Extremely beautiful hotel. Very peaceful, perfect place to start your vacation. They have some lovely pools here, especially the Infinity pool. Lots of amazing views around.

We had a deluxe room with twin beds. Lots of reds and browns. The bed was especially inviting after a long day. We had a nice balcony with an excellent view of the lake. The bathroom was my favourite part. Large tub, a glass shower and a huge window for a wall.

Food was good, large portions. The breakfast buffet is rather extensive. Something for everyone.

The channels available on the TV were rather limited but no complaints otherwise.

Definitely recommend the Heritance to everyone.

In the deep jungle of Sri Lanka You can find luxusuos hotel merged with the wild nature. Very difficult to see from outside as it is covered by the jungle. Glass walls let you think to sleep outside. Monkey knocks at your glass wall in the morning begging for fresh fruit. In the corridor easy to find bats flying. Watch out for snakes, the also swim in the swimming pool sometime.

Good points:
The service at this hotel was brilliant.
The architecture was amazing which made it exciting to stay in.
The views from the rooms/terraces are truly stunning.
The pool is worth the visit alone.
The grounds the hotel is set in are beautiful.

Bad points:
The food was fine but expensive for what you get.
It is worth sorting out transport your self before you get there as they are out of the way and makes transport expensive if organised from there.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Heritance Kandalama is shaped like the outspread wings of a bird, following the line of the cliff from which it seems to emerge. The hotel is a staggering 1km from end to end, and rises up seven floors, yet appears to be a perfectly natural extension of the mountainside. The flat roof and timber pillars support a screen of vegetation that attracts local wildlife. The abundance of real-life animals around the hotel is complemented by wonderful large-scale sculptures within it. A metal owl is suspended outside the main restaurant; wooden elephants inhabit the lounge; a stone cobra uncoils along the terrace overlooking the infinity pool. However, while focusing on highlighting its enchanting natural surroundings, our luxury resort in Sri Lanka gives priority to providing its guests with the finest comforts and service. ... more   less
