“A beautiful beautiful stay. Highly recommended :)”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Me and my family stayed over for one night (half board). We paid for a superior room, but was upgraded to a luxury room as compliments (thanku kandalama!)

covering up what everyone needs to know.
Place - Very very clean. Breathtaking! you can literally say gazing around for a full half a day! Everything is wooden and in sync with the environment. hearing this you would expect it to be not so luxurious and sort of rural. But no, it's absolute luxury.
Staff - Wonderful. From the welcome drink in the beginning to checking out they r always there to take care of you. If you have a prob, just call them up and they will take care of it in a matter of minutes.
Room - PERFECT. Nice and cozy with everything from the floor panels to the sliding doors done in a wooden theme. It gives you a very homey feeling. the rooms are very clean. comfortable. (up to a point that makes you not want to leave it to walk about). Lovely bathrooms with gorgeous rain showers.
Dinner - I wasn't very happy with dinner. There were a million varieties. But things were too saucy and deserts too dry. Maybe because of the fact that I'm Sri lankan and used to more spicy food. But overall didn't like it that much.
Breakfast - An absolute joy. The dining area is overlooking the lake which gives it a breathtaking view if you sit close to the windows. With very helpful staff and the place bustling with activity you'll enjoy it fully. The food was very nice.

Overall - Just go :)

Room Tip: the sigiriya wing is better. best choose a 'panaromic room'. it's on the top floors givi...

We went there in June 2012 for one night. The room was small, cozy and was done very tastefully. The washroom was very spacious. The food was super excellent with a lot of variety. Hats off to the chef. There are plenty of things to occupy yourself and make the stay memorable. The hotel arrange elephant rides and jeep rides to see elephants. Also you can climb the Kandalama rock with a guide from the hotel. The surrounding of the hotel is beyond words.
The infinity pool is wonderful. The staff were very friendly. This is the place to be if you are looking to truly relax and forget all the hustle of your daily chaos.

I stayed in the Forest resort for 03days & 02 nights. It is amazing piece of architechture & Location is fantabulous. The room & the reception is warmth. The rooms with amazing set up. G .Bawa's plan is out the world. The management is very much intact with the customer satisfaction & makes sure every body goes out very happy. G. M is very much with the staff & spends time with the Guest on their experience. Food buffet is well par with the standards of five star & massive selection of food. chefs team plays a vital role in the buffets & other functions.

Special Thanks to Chef Augustus & Chef Leelanand for treating all the needs of food in flash of a time. The vehicle driver Mr. Bandara is very nice person.

Resort is big enough to take a round & enjoy the ambience.Excellent Hospitality & excellent team of staff, what else we need ?

Well done to Heritance Kandalama resort Team !! Will surly visit with my friends & family.

Room Tip: All are fine rooms with lake view.

Beautiful building, and even though it is getting tired in places it still has a very classy feel about it. The monkeys on my balcony were having a fun time destroying some of the external bathroom cladding and the dark tiles were stained by presumably, hard water deposits, so I agree with some reports that it could do with renovation. It was beautiful to look out at the forest while sitting in the tub. The beds were very comfortable. The place is massive and although, on the weekend I was there, it was fully booked, it did feel quiet and peaceful (except for the main pool which was full of kids). Service staff were unfailingly polite and helpful.
I am a little dubious about it's stated objectives as an eco friendly hotel. (Although, sadly I don't think too many guests care about the eco credentials). Our rooms A/C was set at a freezing 18 degrees and despite our repeated switching it off and relying on the perfectly adequate ceiling fan, every time we returned to our room it had been reset. All the dining areas were similarly cooled to frigid temperatures and it meant we opted for room service dinner instead (which was lovely and meant we could watch a movie with dinner.)

Room Tip: I made a request for a room on the higher floors as they have the best views but it seems other gues...

The property is built in the middle of a forest over looking a lake and its very scenic when you enter the place.. The hotel is bit old and it shows in the furnishing and the way its done up. but the rooms are nice, comfortable and bathrooms with jacuzzi is really amazing.. The food is really great and service is nice too..

Now the not so great points - there is absolutely no activity in the resort. There is small access to the lake but the surroundings are very very muddy and not kept up at all. There were rough plantations everywhere with insects coming out. There is little place where they get the elephant for a ride and there is elephant poo everywhere. I wish they had a clean good lake side for ppl to chill..

there is spa there but the pricing was not encouraging for me to try out any therapy.. there are three pools but open only at 8 am.. and other than main pool, I didn't think others were particularly clean..

So its good for a night or so, but anything longer and you would wonder what to do there..

Bawa, the famous Sri Lankan architect, did a nice job of blending this hotel into the surrounding countryside, and the staff is friendly, but the hotel is badly in need of renovation, and the interior is cold and without charm. The small pool is surrounded mostly be untended grass and earth instead of a large and pleasant deck. The bar is a hole in the wall with no inviting place to sit, and the bartenders had to be told how to make some basic drinks. In our room, the toilet handle was almost falling off and the porcelain was stained, and there weren't sufficient electrical sockets for today's device-laden guests. The wooden trellis outside the rooms was crumbling. This is ostensibly one of the best Sri Lanka has to offer, but like much of the country it is overpriced for what it offers.

Room Tip: We are told (but cannot confirm) that some sections of the hotel have been renovated. If true, it m...

I went to sri lanka for my honeymoon in september, and kandalama was the first hotel. You first pass through a forest and wonder where you are heading, but once there, you are just speechless! A hotel built on rocks! Simply breathtaking! The staff is really nice, the food is AMAZING, the service is excellent and the room was perfect with a jacuzzi! Monkeys would come to the window every morning! It was really unforgettable! Anyways, if you ever want to go to sri lanka, you have to go with the heritance chain of hotels! You will not be disappointed!

Heritance Kandalama is shaped like the outspread wings of a bird, following the line of the cliff from which it seems to emerge. The hotel is a staggering 1km from end to end, and rises up seven floors, yet appears to be a perfectly natural extension of the mountainside. The flat roof and timber pillars support a screen of vegetation that attracts local wildlife. The abundance of real-life animals around the hotel is complemented by wonderful large-scale sculptures within it. A metal owl is suspended outside the main restaurant; wooden elephants inhabit the lounge; a stone cobra uncoils along the terrace overlooking the infinity pool.
