Our guide recommended Samans for a night out as a cahnge to the Amaya Lake Hotel buffet. We had an excellent Rice and Curry there - no choice was offered - being the usual central rice platter and 6 or 7 satellite curries to dive into. All were v. good, alas only the Coconut Sambal had any real bite, but this seemed to be the case most places we ate over a 3 week period in Sri Lanka. Saman serves alcohol [Lion for sure] and out back he has a 'trinket room' full of relics, maybe there are antiques amongst the strewn artifacts even [?]; there are railway lamps, statues and various interesting pieces. He'll be happy to show you and there was never any pressure to buy.

It must have been good - we went back for lunch the next day!

The family is so friendly and the kitchen make wonderful food and the service is also good. Very good Rice and Curry.
The rooms are different, if you get one of the rooms upstairs they will be fine, but they have a lot to restore elsewhere.
It is placed close to the road and it is easy to go to Kandy with a bus just outside. Also the temple is close by.

We stopped at Saman's restaurant for lunch, with our driver, when we were visiting Dambulla. The owner proposed a fresh lake-fish, grilled and served with vegetables and rice.... It took some time to prepare, but it's was worth ! Half a kilo each, and delicious flavored (see picture !)

I must say it was the most terrible accommodation we had for our 3 weeks trip in Sri Lanka. We had arrived late and there were only two rooms left, on the ground floor. I wonder if they usually rent them...
The bathrooms of both rooms were insalubrious. Lots of mosquitos and holes in the mosquito nets. One of the fan in the room did not work and it was so hot our friends could not sleep. The owner was kind and gave them his room!
We have not had dinner there as it seemed a bit overpriced to us compared with usual sri lankan prices...better get a cheap khottu downtown!
The guest house is very well located though, very close to the Rock Temple.

Room Tip: Avoid any room on the ground floor! If there are only those rooms left, go somewhere else!

We stopped at Saman's restaurant for dinner when we were in Dambulla. They serve a nice typical Sri Lankan rice and curry spread for 500Rs per person (around midrange price fo Sri Lanka; but it's way more than you can eat - includes lots of vegetable dishes - the mango curry was excellent - probably a chicken one and loads of rice, then fruit afterwards) Beer was 300Rs and a fanta was 100Rs. It was one of the better rice and curry spread we had in SL, although could have been slightly spicier (although I'm sure if you asked they could sort this out!)

The owners were very nice and chatty. They seemed to be undergoing renovation at the time, so not sure what it would be like to stay there - food was very good though!

We stayed for one night there - and I cannot recommend to go to this place now. They are renovating the ground floor rooms, rain water is running down the walls, the diningroom is dirty, the curry was not good at all - with one word: everything overpriced! They charged the standard rates for these rooms - better stay away - maybe next year it is better! Owner speaks German and English well.

Room Tip: This year not a good choice - not yet renovated!

I stayed a couple of nights in Dambulla and had a warming welcome by the Saman's house owners. Very friendly service and the rooms are descent for the price.
The food was just Yummy ! They serve a typical Curry rice with many side dishes. Everything is home made and we can feel the Sri lankan spirit on every bits.

The Garden is nice to relax surounded by the sound of nature and silence.
Highly recommanded

Room Tip: The rooms will depend on your budget. As a backpacker without penny, i had a cheap room but with val...
