“A Tranquil Oasis!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

We enjoyed a great 2 nights here at MPS. When we arrived we were greeted with massive smiles and a complimentary drink while our reservation was processed. The manager chatted with us at length and showed great interest in our visit and gave recommendations on where to go during our stay in both Sri Lanka and Dambulla.

The room was a little dated but clean and comfortable with air conditioning and a TV (although all ‘local’ channels – none in English). We opted for a Deluxe room which had its own little terrace overlooking the beautiful lake (complete with water monitors which was saw a couple of).

We were the only guests in the hotel for the majority of our stay and particularly enjoyed having the pool area completely to ourselves. One member of staff was quick to rush out with a pair of towels for us, while another was regularly cleaning the pool of leaves just for us.
We ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner twice, and lunch once. The local food in particular was excellent, and was far better value and quality than their western offerings. We had one small criticism of the service on the 2nd evening however, where one member of staff proceeded to watch a local soap opera on a television in the corner of the restaurant while we ate our meal! This made us feel very uncomfortable during our dinner and we cut short our time there because of him.

Overall, the MPS Village is wonderful, a little out of town but well worth the journey. The surroundings of the lake and hills in the background make it a tranquil oasis just a 5 minute tuk-tuk journey out of the bustling Dambulla town centre. Recommended.

If you plan to be in Sri Lanka and want to experience more than the beaches, plan to stay at this gem in the Dambulla area! We were there in March with a volunteer team, and everyone had a fantastic experience. Beautiful setting, very reasonable priced and the upgraded new rooms are wonderful. Food was great and the staff very accommodating. Close enough to Kandy and Sigiriya for day trips. Even though we were in Sri Lanka building houses, it felt like a vacation when we returned to MPS Village each night!

Lovely quite serene place, overlooking a lake. Because it was off season we were the only guests and the staff were brilliant and looked after us well. Lovely clean pool,to cool off after a day out visiting the cultural sites. The hotel had a car and a driver that we used, was very reasonable at 40lkr a km. The meals were ok, could have been better but because of the location of this hotel we had to make do. The only downside was that the hotel was about 11 Km's from town and was not easily accessible other than using a tuk tuk or the hotel drivers. The town of Dambulla is like something from the wild Wild West and we found the best place to eat at was the Bentota Bakery in the middle of town, a large red building. That's if you like Sri Lankan curries.
Overall a good place to stay.

Stayed for 3 nights in their standard room, which was equipped with basic and dated furnitures. Room was clean and the porch was great for one to sit down and enjoy the surrounding scenery. There were many bugs in and outside the room so it might be uncomfortable for some.
Meals were alright but service was great. They provided vegetarian meals for my mum and some local food for breakfast.

We had 3 nights here in a lovely room, with a porch overlooking a large lake. We enjoyed the birdlife, the pool and the many sights that can be seen within hours from here. This hotel was part of our tour. We didn't enjoy the Western food, but when we asked for Sri Lankan food the Manager was very obliging and was always attentive to our needs.

We booked the MPS because it has such great reviews in tripadvisor and were not disappointed - quite on the contrary! As standard rooms were all booked, we treated ourselves to a deluxe room, which was huge, clean and had a nice porch with lovely view on the lake. The shower is huge as well and the water is hot. Best of it all is the lovely garden, the beautiful pool and the friendly staff. They really want to see you happy. The food, however, does not measure up with the rest. They have 2 bikes which we used to explore the beautiful countryside. It's also a great place to relax, read a book or just watch the many birds, fish and lizards in and around the lake. Top marks!

We stopped at MPS for 1 night between the cultural trips to Dambulla and Sigiriya. This 'resort' is set in well maintained grounds by a lake. We were made to feel most welcome. However, the rooms were small, basic and in need of an overhaul, that said they were very clean. If you're tall you'll be banging your head on the door frames....and the food was mediocre to say the least.
