“Value for Money”
Reviewed August 20, 2010

We stayed in this hotel for one night while on transit to Sigiriya. The interior decor of the hotel is great and the rooms are nicely furnished. Though the hotel is directly located in the center od Dambulla town, it is still still in a quiet location, away from the hustle and bustle. We had a good night's sleep. The only downturn was the bathroom and especially the shower cabinet. The water from the shower flooded the whole bathroom which was also full of mould. However, the bathroom was clean.

Breakfast buffet was good and seems to be a pull as many tour groups stop over for a quick eat. The set diner menu was not to our liking though.

Overall, 70 USD for a double room on half-board basis is is good value for money for this hotel.

The only safe looking place in the town with well-trained, friendly staff, clean rooms and a good restaurant. Their papaya juice is a must. The bar is open in the evenings and the swimming pool looks inviting with the clean water amidst the trees and the farm beyond, with ducks enjoying their walk around.

Reasonably priced, this hotel has a convenient location, especially if you intend exploring the ancient cities.

The local cave temple is walking distance for experienced trekkers. Cycles are provided for local exploration.

True to its name in being a transit hotel - the perfect base for exploring Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Mihintale and of course, Dambulla - with the bus stop bang opposite the hotel.

The Sri Lankan hospitality continues in full swing. There never is a place in Serendib where you will not enjoy their hospitality.

I stayed in the Gimanhala Hotel for one night when visiting Sigiriya. I was welcomed by a very charming receptionist, wearing a green sari in the morning, and a red one in the evening. The very spacious room on the second floor had an excellent new and very silent AC. The bathroom was a bit old, but clean an everything worked with a good shower. Beds had rather thin matresses, but had very clean sheets an blankets. There is a well stocked bar and a roomy open plan restaurant with view of the nice swimming pool. Food was simple and tasty a la carte. All in all much value for money. I will stay there again.

We stayed at the Gimanhala 1 night as part of our 2 week trip around Sri Lanka. We found this hotel listed in the lonely planet and we were so glad to find it as many other hotels were fully booked out !
The room was $40 per night which we thought was great value considering some of the other dodgy hotels we looked at. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, clean sheets, mosquito nets, TV, nice authentic decor, reception staff were efficient.
Restaurant was fantastic we had a delicious dinner (ala carte menu) and breakfast was also great, service was very quick compared to other hotels we stayed at in Sri Lanka. There was a nice swimming pool but we didnt have time for a swim. We went on to visit the Dambulla Cave Temples from here so the location was fantastic. Apparently this hotel has a lot of tour groups passing through the restaurant and we could see why! Definately would recommend this hotel, a great find at good price.
