Lovely location. You can see some nice soruoundings. Dont forget to go to the temple on the other side as it has more to see.Like Arahath guhawa. Recommend to visit early morning or in the evening.

This is not a well known or popular place amongst the travellers/pilgrims visiting Anuradhapura.

I too was a bit skeptical about the visit because we had to travel about 25-30 Km along the A9 road from Anuradhapura but it was worth the effort.

The view from the top of the rock was extremely scenic.

Buddhists visiting the stupa located at the top of the rock: Be sure to take flowers/oil/incense sticks from elsewhere because none of those are available at the location.

I and My University members (Tourism and Hospitality Management Badge 2010/2011, From Rajarata University) arrange a Excursion to visit Isinbessagala.
It's a Hidden place as for tourism. But the Location is ideal for Cultural Tourism as well as for Sightseeing. There is a hidden story that, Arahath Mahindha thero visited here before went to Mihinthale to find the direction to Mihinthale.
But any way it a typical rural village Sensurround by and the Sinhala concept of Village,Temple,Lake and Dhageba (Gamai, Pansalai, Wewai ,Dagebai) Show nicely this place.
So if you visit go there before noon because sunshine is high....or go there afternoon...
And there is an end-less Massive Na Tree....

Isin Bessa Gala "Ruwangiri Raja Maha Viharaya " is Located approximately 2km away from Medawachchiya, which is a town in Anuradhapura. (Kandy Jaffna A9 highway). This temple was built by king Dewanampiyathissa, after introducing Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahath Mahinda (Mihindu) Thero. History says that Arahath Mihindu Thero along with other Buddhist monks first arrived to this historical place. You could find a monument of arrival of Mahinda thero, at the temple premises.

Temple is situated on top a large rock where four other major Stupas including " Ruwanweli Seya" are clearly visible.
