We stayed here a couple of nights in July 2015, and were extremely well taken care of by the charming landlady, Senowin, and her mother, who made everything to make us feel at home. When we arrived from Dambulla it was already noon. Senowin immediately called the bike agency and had two bikes ready for us on the spot. She drew us a huge map marking all the places we should not miss, and also recommended where to eat and drink. Unlike the itinerary in our book guide, the itinerary she recommended was doable and relaxing. The house itself is not very far from the sights of Anuradhapura. Our bike ride there was undoubtedly the highlight of our twenty days trip in Sri Lanka, and this was mainly thanks to the recommendations we got. We took a room with a balcony and air/c. The room was basic but comfortable and clean. At first we didn’t order breakfast. But once we tasted Senowin’s fabulous dishes at dinner, we immediately ordered breakfast. Both dinner and breakfast were the best we ate in Sri Lanka. Senowin is a fabulous cook, and the aubergine curry at dinner as well as the banana hoppers for breakfast were fantastic (Senowin emailed us the recipes later).
Travelling for us is not only about sightseeing, but also about meeting people. We felt very fortunate to have a long chat with Senowin and her mother and to hear about their experiences and also share stories with them about our experiences and travels. It is definitively a place we would like to return to, the next time we are in Sri Lanka.
