We stayed for 3 nights and were very happy with the room (great value for money), friendly staff and tours we organized through the hotel (half day tuk tuk tour of ruins and full day safari at wilpattu). The only thing we didn't like was the sandwich for lunch at the national park, but it's hard to know what would keep in the heat.
It was also nice to be able to pay with a credit card which wasn't possible at most budget places we stayed at in Sri Lanka.

When we arrived we were moved to London hotel nearby (1km) which belong to Milano. So we have used just Milano services and stop there for dinner. London hotel is very nice, recently reconstructed and convenient. Rooms was big, quiet, and clean. Wifi worked with no problem.Breakfast was nice and it was enough of them. We have dinner in Milano, which was really very tasty and they have very nice cook. Also we rented bikes and it was great idea. On our day out there was not so much hot and bikes is very convinient for moving in Anuradhapura. Also we were transfered from Milano to London for free and when we go to Milano for bikes, tuktuk was also free. Then on the way back from Milano to London we paid 100RS for tuktuk.

We arrived to a sweltering hot room where the air conditioning was old and inefficient. We asked the management if we could change rooms, but it seemed that all the rooms had the same problem. By the next morning the room had reached a pleasant temperature. We left the A/C running and went for a day of sight-seeing. When we returned that afternoon the A/C was turned off and the temperature was over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (I know this because I had a fever and the thermometer would only register the room temp because it was so hot). We left a day early even though we couldn't get a refund - we were too miserable to stay.

We spend two nights at Milano, from March 30th to April 1st. We arrived there very late, after a drive from the airport that took 4 hours and left as exhausted. When we arrived they gave us the room 105, which was incredibly small, even the toilet, and the sink drain wasn't working. The room was also very close to the kitchen and it was really hot. We just took the room, thinking that all the rooms were the same. The morning after, when we were going to have breakfast, we could see other rooms because they were cleaning and the doors were open. For our surprise, these rooms were incredibly big, much better than ours. After this, we went to the manager and asked for another room, which they accepted right away without any comment. The new room was just what we expected in the first place, big and clean.
The day after, we saw a couple asking also for a change of room, we weren't surprised when thet said they were in the room 105, so I belive they do this usually, and if guests doesn't complain, they don't do anything. So take your own conclusions...
Another interesting thing is that they'll try to force you into hiring transport through them, it's up to you, but they told us that a tuck-tuck for a half-day visit to Anuradhapura was 2,500 Rupees , not negotiable, whereas we found exactly the same he was offering for 1,500 Rupees without even negotiating...
Apart from these incidents, the food was very good, even though it was a little expensive, and the natural juices were just fantastic!

Since they had only one room left, they gave us very spacious room with two double beds and charged only half of the price they use to ask for this room. Restaurant food is very good and hotel staff very friendly. Only mosquitos bother you at the dinner table.

I really, really liked the Milano Tourist Rest. Our room was spacious and very clean. The air conditioning worked very well - which is quite important in hot, hot Anuradhapura! The staff were very kind too, particularly the restaurant staff. Very professional, courteous and lots of smiles to go around. The front desk organized two different cars for us too and we really liked our drivers - the first from Colombo Airport to the guesthouse, and the second from the guesthouse to Kandy (with a couple of ruins stops in between). Both drivers were very professional and kind.

The Milano's restaurant served very tasty food (though, a bit overpriced). Unfortunately, the restaurant is located outside and the mosquitoes are really, really bad. While the owners don't have control over the fact that mosquitoes exist in the area, they don't do anything to ward them off (no coils, candles, etc.). In fact, I would say that they practically invite them in... There is a small pond on the grounds that is literally a breeding ground, and the array of plants are also a haven. And, these aren't tiny mosquitoes either - we nicknamed them hummingbirds if that gives you any idea of the size...

So, I'd highly recommend staying at the hotel (it would easily receive a five star rating from me if the mosquitoes disappeared). But, do bring bug resistant clothes and bug spray (I put on a layer of armor every time I went down to dine!).

Room Tip: We had room number 104, and really, really liked it. It's a bit more expensive than the standar...

The room was clean, air conditioner worked fabulously and despite the fact our windows looked out onto the kitchen area, we had no complaints. Milano was cheap and the food was excellent - it did the job for our 2 night stay to explore Anuradhapura. The staff were very attentive also.
