This was our 1st Sri Lanka stop after Colombo. In spite of the rain (unusual in January), we were warmly welcomed to our room (chalet), as part of a 2 unit comfortable refuge looking over a large pool, lots of luxurious green, and a pleasant evening stroll to open air (covered) dinner. Both dinner & breakfast buffets were copious and offered western or Sri Lankan choices (go for the Sri Lankan options!). Excellent service, lots of smiles, and only complaint was having to leave and move to next stop. We will go back & stay longer. Good quality/price value.

Room Tip: Ask if possible to be in a unit without someone in adjoining cottage

Nice big garden area. Rooms are outdated. Not refurbished recently. Washroom too small and outdated. Good big sized pool. Nice area for bird lovers. Restaurant and food normal standard.
The hotel is not worth for the rate charged.

We stayed two nights, using Palm Garden as a base to visit Wilpattu National Park and Anuradhapura. The chalets are beautifully nestled in the nature, but the rooms were pretty basic. Room service was also very poor and I struggled to have my requests actioned by the staff even as a speaker of the local language. Staff was generally unorganised and even managed to double book our SPA appointment. The restaurant food was good, however, and they were able to organise packed lunches for us on our safari trip to the national park. Despite the poor service and not being great value, it is one of the very few decent hotels in the area, unfortunately

We stayed here only one night with our 2 boys. The room was spotless and comfortable although the bathroom could do with a makeover. The gardens were spacious, extensive and beautiful and it was nice to have the space for the kids to run around and explore. The pool was nice and the kids enjoyed it. There was construction going on while we were there but it did not disturb us. The dinner buffet and breakfast buffets were very good, satisfying even the fussiest of kids! Staff were polite and helpful. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you don't want to walk very far to your room make sure you request a room close to reception...

The palm garden village hotel was streched out facility in the middle of former agricultural soil. There is a preserved well which dated back some centuries ago, with help from locals and the local governement they could sustaine this piece of history.
I had walk about in the garden of the 'village' wich was nice and lots of varieties of flowers and trees at the other hand they were still constructing the pool-site,wich was a pity because of all the noise and dust it produced . The dinner was selection of the Chef-cook himself and was a chocice of going back in time a dated dinner, but in this surroundings of an old style colonial furniture which made it quite romantic and cosy.

The hotel has large beautiful landscaped grounds. The rooms are villas spread out across the large grounds. Rooms are nice but it is quite a walk to the main building. It is a challenge to get back to your rooms at night as it is poorly lit. One could easily get lost! Luckily we brought our own torch. Even then it is difficult. The management has to add much more lights and signs for directions.

Work was ongoing in the swimming pool, more villas are being built or renovated. Electrical work is also ongoing.

Breakfast is reasonable.

Room Tip: Get one closer to the main building!

The rooms in and the setting of this hotel/resort are beautiful. Huge landscaped gardens, well designed rooms with charming old colonial style furnishings.

Staff were hopeless. They seemed to realise they should be providing a high standard of service (which they should for the price), but they clearly had no idea how to do this. They were unable to help with any queries or questions e.g. Transport. Settling the bill was unnecessarily drawn out and complex. It was a challenge to pay by cards even though they advertise this as an option. And for some reason room service seems to start unnecessarily early in the morning, waking up jet lagged holiday makers.

The restaurant is a nice setting, the food is ok, particularly the sri lankan food, but the attempts at western food were pretty poor. And the bar was closed on christmas day! The spa is v cheap by western standards but the skill of the therapists reflects this.

The resort is pretty far out of town so is quite inconvenient if you want to eat out or visit the sites.

Poor value for money by Sri Lankan standards.
