“Another dagoba”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Yet another of these Sri Lankan dagoba. Nothing special here. The place was deserted when we visited in the evening. It's just like other dagobas and local pray here.

Felling ripped off after paying 3250 bucks for seeing these kind of attractions in Anuradhapura. Better skip Anuradhapura. It's not worth visiting this place at all!

“One of the largest in the world”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Before reviewing about Abahyagiri dagaba, shall give a short briefing about the place it is located. The city of Anuradhapura, the sacred city is the place were this great dagaba is located. The city itself was the kingdom for number of ancient kings who governed the island thousands of years ago. Therefore there are 8 sacred places consist of dagabas and the Sri maha bodhiya along with the Abhayagiri dagaba are located within this great city which carries memories and monuments of ancient ruins such as great dagabas, temples with great sculpture, world famous "Isurumuni lovers" in Isurumuniya viharaya, the sacred bo tree , the world famous"samadhi pilimaya" of lord Buddha which depicts the great talents of ancient sculpture etc. If you are going to visit Abhayagiri dagaba, you will be able to watch the most amazing construction of this great dagaba which has the circumference of few hundred feet and a massive height. Soon after watching this great monument and studying the civil construction work of its building architecture, you will be the lucky tourist who will get the opportunity to watch many great constructions such as the dable ponds called 'kuttam pokuna" and some of the ancient ruins or dagabos which are still being worshiped by the people in Sri lanka. If you are a person who is interested of archeology, I don't think there is a better place than this to learn a culture going back to few thousand years.

This dagoba was so busy with locals praying and visiting, so we decided to enjoy the view of this dagoba from the enterance. It's really impressive to look at and the history behind it is really interesting.

“Good”

Like most of the Dagobas it is large with a small shrine. Very much a recommend to those Buddhists. As a simple tourist I enjoyed it but wasn't spectacular.
