“Just another attraction”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

This is not the original Bodhi Tree. Actual Bodhi Tree is in Bodh Gaya of Bihar, India. This is just a spaling of that tree, which has gained importance.

You'll see lot of locals worshipping here. If you're an outsider, get ready to be stared by all these localites.

“Anuradhapura”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Anuradhapura being one of the major cultural cities in Sri Lanka can be known as the most scared city carrying great past reminiscences all around the city of our ancient kings’, exotic rulers which created great history testifying of its glory. The city Anuradhapura was the capital of Sri Lanka continuously from the 5th century BC to AD 1017 where it gave birth to Sinhala civilization. There are many interesting places to visit at Anuradhapura which reveals the history of Sri Lanka. Temples, Stupas, Buddha statues would reveal the serenity of Buddhist culture which has existed over decades in the country.
Ruwanveli Saya once being the pride of the Great Emperor Dutugamunu is supposed to have the perfect water bubble shape. Thuparama being the oldest dagaba, Isurumuniya temple is very much famous for its rock carvings. Mihinthale, Jethawana Monastery, Abhayagiri Monastery represents great history which relates to introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. The city is well known as one of the best and complicated irrigations in the ancient world. Our ancestors had sophisticated systems of man-made lakes and canals and structure of the town was very well planned. All travelers are invited to the city of Anuradhapura to feel the glory and serenity of Sri Lanka’s cultural and historical background.
Eight places of Veneration can be named as,
Sri Maha Bodhi, Abhayagiri Dagaba, Ruwanvelisaya, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya, Jethavanaramaya, Mirisaveti Stupa, Lankarama

“Very historical site”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

Visited this National Historical site as part of a 17-day Bunnik Tours.
Note: 200 Rupees entry fee + Rupees for the shoe minder + cover your shoulders & knees + have a pair of old socks as the ground can get quite hot.
Boodhi tree is roughly 2,300 years old.
Only family descendants of those that planted the tree may approach it (white tunic and trousers, with a diagonal green sash).
Steeped in history and worth the visit.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

This was one of the temples I called into during my full day tour with my driver on Thursday 22/08/13 from Negombo, quite a crowd of locals & some tourists. A relaxing atmosphere & very hot at times, your able to walk around at your own pace & click away taking many happy snaps. An attraction for all ages and families. Must add this attraction to your agenda & worth visiting this Interesting place with so much history.
